Need to load software without CD-ROM

I have a little Acer Aspire, and it doesn't have a CD-ROM. I have my anti-virus software on CD. How do I get it on this computer? I have another computer with a CD-ROM, and I have a USB that can be used to link the two. Not sure how to do it, though.

You'll need an ISO image that could be transferred to the usb drive.

You'll need a software program to read the ISO. I like PowerISO. Install the PowerISO on another computer and the place the cd (dont install the antivirus-just keep the cd in the cd drive) in that same computer. Create an iso image with powerISO and save it to the usb drive.

After the ISO image is saved on the usb, take out the usb and plug it into your destination computer where you want to load the antivirus program. Install the powerISO to the Acer.

Now double click on the ISO image found on the usb drive and powerISO will come up (select continue unregistered) with a bunch of files. Look for a setup.exe file and double click on it.

I've used PowerISO before, so I should be able to pull that off. Thanks.

One more computer question. My desktop has two 512mb SSDR sticks. I'm going to upgrade to two 1G sticks (maybe 2G sticks). I noticed there are different specs such as MHz and pin. What do I need to know to get the right match for my computer? I know mine is 667 MHz, so I presume this must match. What about pin etc?

MHz rating must be equal or better.

Post a model number/brand like said above and knowledge shall be forthcoming!

Pirate! you can also try connecting the 2 computers with crossed patch cable & transfer the setup files from CD to HDD.

If you know how to remove the ram from slot then you should be able to read the spec sticker on the ram or you can try the BIOS too. When you starts the computer & it beeps then shows the info screen with summary, at that moment hit "Pause" button on keyboard & the screen will freeze, take down the details.

Most ideas will work fine here.

Just want to note that if you are running a 32bit OS still that you can only really utilize 3GB of memory maximum. That's including L2 Cache, Graphics RAM, etc.

Question

Thanks for the help guys. I switched out the sticks with two 1Gs sucessfully.

I put PowerISO on both computers, copied the software (ESET NOD32) as an .iso on the usb drive, and opened the usb drive on the new computer using PowerISO. It shows all the files and folders. When I click the autorun.exe (the only .exe) it yields the following prompt:

Code:
You are about to run an executable file. We recommend you to extract all files to a tempoary folder, then run the file. Please select:
O Run the file directly
O Extract all files to temporary folder
When I try to run it directly, nothing happens
When I Extract, it shows me that it is extracting to some temp folder, but nothing happens from there. I can't find where that temp folder is located.

Any advice on how to proceed?

it's runnng right; what you could do is look in the options menu and allocate an area where you want to put the extracted folder

Don't use PowerISO to open the ISO image. Find the *.iso file in explorer and right click on it. In that menu, you will find a PowerISO item with a subitem that says "Mount YourIsoFile.iso to". Once you mount the iso image, it will appear to your OS as a real drive and you can run the autorun from explorer. You may have to go select "PowerISO->Set Number of Drives" and set it to a number of drives if it doesn't let you mount it

You don't want to extract the image though... it won't run the same. You need to mount the drive

I have tried all the win7 builds that came out....as of now i am downloading the Release Candidate version. I have three computers running vista, one is P4 based m/c, 2nd is my lappy Hp6930P and 3rd is my home desktop...all running excellent.

For my home desktop when I had Xp, I had to use 4 different driver cd's to get all the hardware working.

When I installed win7, the system was up & running in no time with every single hardware working.

Btw final version of win7 will come with Microsoft's own antivirus software.

Juggernaut if you need any info let me know...happy to help

I too am running win7. I like it a lot. Doesnt seem undone like Vista did. Granted the new video card I just put in is kickass. I got drivers right off the website for it too. Works beautifully. I also added one of my favorite games of all time-Unreal Tournament 1, and it loaded and played incredibly well on win7.

I love Windows 7 too. The Beta is extremely intelligent. It "knew" what exact monitor model and printer I had connected to it. Apparently it has the capability to automatically set up connections with any wireless printer in range too.

My specs are in my sig
