If you think all internet reviews are from customers who are honestly reviewing their product, then you have been severely misled. There is so much shilling and self-promotion that goes on across the whole internet that it isn't even funny.

It is possible that reviews are shared between the websites, because if a product does not have reviews then people will be less likely to buy... Amazon and Overstock, knowing this, may share reviews. However, it is also possible (and more likely) that the poster is an agent of the seller who has "bought" the product for the sole reason of leaving a good review in order to increase sales.

It is 100% illegal. As a matter of fact, the FBI has 5-6 Detectives scour the internet on a daily basis looking for people like this who post fictitious reviews of sewing machines. I believe it is covered in the phantom 28th Amendment stating Thou Shalt Not Commit Douchebaggery. Unfortunately, your post is also covered in that Amendment so you better run.
