Red badge of climax

If you experience red splotches on your face and neck after climax, you're not alone. Here's what happens: When you have sex, you increase pressure in your chest cavity, which puts pressure on your entire circulatory system. This can cause fragile capillaries to fill or even burst, and the dilated vessels or escaping blood makes skin red and blotchy. In general, it's nothing to worry about, says Stuart H. Kaplan, M.D., a Beverly Hills dermatologist.. The blood vessels will heal quickly on their own and the redness will dissipate. To prevent the chameleon-like discoloration, avoid overly contorted sexual positions that put your head lower than your heart. "Overly vigorous sex can increase pressure inside the chest cavity, making capillaries more likely to burst," says Dr. Kaplan.
