    Multi-Wives way,,,

I believe that some of you know that Islam religion is allowing every man to marry up to 4 wives at a time. There are many benefits are supporting this law. As every body know that the world's publications shows that 43% Male and 57% female living in the world. In this case, I would say if each man gets only one wife, 14% of females have no chance to get married and this is really creating a lot of serious problems like whoredom and being spinster. A recent research shows that a man can love up to four women whereas women can love only one man. In Islam there are many conditions should be met to be qualified to marry more that one wife like being able to spend on all wives as well and giving equal time for each. This law is being discussed in some none Muslim countries. My question, Do you really support this way and suggest this to be generalized in the world?

    Dude,

I lived in Saudi Arabia in the early 80s and the practice of multiple wives has NOTHING to do with the fact that women outnumber men and the only benefits are for the men. And where did you ever get the idea that men can love up to 4 women and women can only love 1 man? Physically, a man can only get it up so often but a woman can have sex much more frequently so it looks like a woman can 'love' more men than a man can 'love' women.

The real reason that men in Saudi can have multiple wives is because in Islam women are treated as property. Women are not allowed to drive a car, they are not allowed out of the house without a male relatives escort, they are not allowed to show their face, arms, or legs in public, they can not leave the country without permission from their husband or father.

In the US we can have multiple cars and houses and in Saudi the men can have multiple wives. Also in Saudi a men can divorce his wife by saying it 4 times and he can have short term marriages (with prostitutes) that are quickly ended afterwords.

You have to look at it historically. In the past (middle ages mostly) men were the warriors and providers. The more men that a village had the better it was able to defend itself. Thus, men and male children were more valued than women and female children. Islam and most of the middle east is still living in the "middle age" mentality. Look at China where male children are more valued than female children so much that female children are killed, abandoned, and given up for adoption. And because of that there are about 20 (or so) million more young adult men than women. Its perfect for an army but bad for the men who will never find a wife.

So, no I don't think that its a good idea.

    Dude,
Unfortunately practices in Saudia Arabia don't represent islam. Saudi does in fact treat women poorly (car, escort, etc). Islam does not. Islam does not make restriction on driving, an escort etc.
The real reason islam allowed 4 wives was because during the time islam was revealed, polygamy was very very common. People had upwards of 11 wives. Islam restricted it 4 and put condition on it; such as equal treatment, time, and money. Another reason was to spread Islam more quickly. More wives, more pregnancy thus more kids. Finally the biggest reason was during time of war, when women would lose their husbands and couldn't find men to marry. Being single during those times were very tough. Women would prefer to marriage to man with other wives (especially if they were widows with kids) than be single and not taken care of. If the women does not agree with her husband marrying another, then she has the right to a divorce.

As far as short term marriages. The marriage is not lawful unless it is publicly announced and understood by the people (ex: wedding). Thus these short term marriages for prostituation are not islamically legal (your intentions are legit).

As for my opinion. You have two situations:
    a) Married man and women. Man has a girlfriend on the side. Girlfriend doesn't know of the wife. Wife doesn't know of the girlfriend. Man is committing adultry which is a great sin.
    or
    b) Married man to two women. Both women know each other, both agree with the situation, both their kids play together.

I would take B over A. Unfortunately in this country B is illegal.

If the husband does not agree to the divorce, can the woman still get divorced?

Like I said middle age mentality. All cultures and religions have been through this. Europe had it middle ages, Christianity had the crusades and spanish inquisition and Juadism had its "old testament" age.

    BTW,
Islam is not the only religion that has allowed polygamy. Polygamy was allowed in Judaism (outlawed only 1000 years ago). Christianity also allowed it and now you can see idea still is prevailing in the Mormon sect.

Yes she can. Islamically law does allow a women to divorce her husband. She can even claim that she is not sexually satisfied.
Now find a country that will follow that law. Saudia Arabia which many people think is an islam state is not.
Culture in the middle east and asia has really made the preception of women in islam to be bad.

I'm pretty sure in most muslim countries her husband's gunna kill her before or after the divorce completes... If she'd be claiming he's not able to satisfy her sexually, that's like as bad as u can hurt him lol..

Anyway, marrying up to 4 women has nothin to do with the fact that there's more women than men, in fact it's just that those guys wanna fk younger girls..

The bad thing about this is, let's say you have a 19 yr old, a 30 yr old, a 40 yr old and a 60 yr old wife... If you plan to have sex with the 19 yr old tonight, you're going to have sex with the 30, 40 and 60 yr old respectively or they divorce you...

I think adults should be able to decide how and who they want to marry...but it has to go both ways, women should be able to have 4 husbands..

do not start giving out false information to prove your point. the "mormon sect" does not practice polygamy, nor is the idea prevailing.

interesting spin, but categorically untrue. the LDS religion does not practice polygamy in any way shape or form. there are however breakaway sects with no ties to the church that still practice polygamy in utah, arizona, and other states

ive seen all the news stories and when people understand them they also understand it is a breakaway sect with no affiliation to the LDS faith that still practice polygamy. i have studdied multiple religions not just christianity and cannot stand it when those who have a very limited and tainted understanding try to go and preach falsehoods as truth like they are knowlegeable on the subject. this thread was originally about islam which first got me interested to see if people are willing to try and understand before they pass judgement. and while i do go to byu i am however not mormon
