Hah...I agree, golf isn't a very spectator friendly game. But playing the game good sure is challenging and a whole lotta fun to boot.
I've been playing close to a year now and am just starting to get over the hump of terribleness to mediocrity, that has been as hard as heck to do

Watch the U.S Open this year. It should be a good one. They just canceled play today though. This rain is ridiculous.
