Tiger Woods was hospitalized early Friday when he struck a fire hydrant and a neighbor's tree while pulling his Cadillac Escalade out of the driveway at his Florida home.
The world's greatest golfer hit the hydrant about 2:25 a.m. before driving into the tree on adjacent property in the gated community of Isleworth.
He was leaving his $2.4 million Florida mansion when the accident occurred. It was unclear if he was wearing a seat belt.
Woods, 33, was taken by ambulance to North Central Hospital in Ocoee, Fla., in serious condition, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
Woods spokesman Glenn Greenspan told The Associated Press that the golfer was treated at the hospital and released in good condition.
A local Florida mayor told CNN that Woods suffered facial lacerations.
The hospital declined comment.
Police said the airbags on the 2009 SUV did not deploy, meaning Woods was driving under 33 mph.
The crash remains under investigation and charges are pending. The highway patrol said the accident was not alcohol-related.
Woods owns 14 major championships, the second highest total in history, and earns more than $100 million annually from golfing and his myriad endorsement deals.
He's captured 82 victories worldwide in becoming perhaps the most recognizable sports figure around the globe.
Earlier this week, Woods handled the coin toss before the California-Stanford football game. At halftime, the Stanford alum was inducted into his alma mater's sports Hall of Fame.
Woods returned to the tour this year after reconstructive surgery on his left knee sidelined him for eight months.
Although he failed to win a major title this year, Woods captured six tournaments after his return. He won the Australian Open earlier this month.
How the fuck do you wreck in your driveway at 33 miles per hour.
I don't believe for one second that he wasn't drinking.
Not that I care that he was drinking, but it just sounds fishy.
There is a story out that his wife confronted him about cheating, clawed him in the face, then chased him down the drive with a golf club smashing the back window of the vehicle. While he was trying to leave.
