Actually I am happy with Kessel he has play really well. Something you are not guarenteed with a draft pick. Given the Leafs history of developing talent, this is a win-win situation.

Look where the Bruins got Tiko Raask from.
I agree that it was a good trade but it's just the Leafs luck that it turns into a #2 pick instead of a later pick. But I suppose they knew that was a possiblity when they made the trade.
it's too gimmicky. a poor way to decide a game. take the rangers game. sure they got outplayed for a lot of the game, but you have this hard fought 65 minutes of team hockey to be decided by shooters going up against tired goalies. Takes the team aspect out of the game.
I would prefer one 20 minute 4 on 4 OT period. If that does not decide the winner, then you have a tie. Sort of like the NFL, you might get one tie a year, factor in the larger NHL schedule and you might get 10-20 ties in a year MAYBE, but with the 4 on 4 I think you are guaranteed a winner in a 20 minute period, especially if they call penalties correctly.
and I think they could zamboni the ice between the 3rd period and OT in about 5-10 minutes, so if they are worried about time, I don't think it really adds that much more time. Instead of a 7PM game ending at 9:30, it could end at 10:30? Is that a big deal?
You are right it is gimmicky.... something the NHL needs to draw in fans. The NHL has its core of fans, but it needs to grow, hence its expansion to shitty locations like Nashville, Carolina, Pheonix.
The shoot out also makes the individual player stand out and more marketable, something the NHL hasn't been that good at showcasing.
Does it really still accomplish that? Maybe at first it did, but now, I don't even find the shootout exciting or entertaining. I would rather see more 4 on 4 OT hockey than the shootout.
I personally think that the 4 on 4 OT is much much more entertaining than a shootout. OT is usually back and forth, and with the extra space out there, generally it is a showcase for the better players as well, just not wrapped up with a nice bow and called a shootout.
I think the thrill of an OT goal is more exciting than the thrill of shootout goals. Tell me when the Leafs win a game in a shootout that it doesn't feel anti-climatic to you? If they score in OT, isn't that much more exciting?
Oh, and they need to do away with the loser's point too, that is just artificial parity and nonsense. did you know the Rangers would have been the 7th seed if there were ties and no loser's point, like the old way? not that it matters, because the Rangers had no business even being in a position to make the playoffs the way they played this year, but I guess it is what it is...
Good game between the Canadiens and Caps. Montreal played pretty well, Halak was solid. They definitely did what they needed to do to shut down Ovechkin.

Rumour has it that Ovie is hurtin. Apparently his Russian Trainer is over, and he only is around when Ovie is hurt.
I wouldn't say it was the best game...Montreal got destroyed.... Halak was just phenomenal. Unreal the saves he was making.
Yep, he was bombarded with shots. Caps should have won that game, but thats why you play the game in the first place.
