    World Cup 2010

Alright.... I know soccer isn't too well received on the professional level over here in North America. But come on.... I can't help but be glued to the results from the world cup.

    First Game just started

Exciting game this Afternoon with France and Uruguay. Two prominent teams in the world.

    Any thoughts on the games?

    Mexico should handle South Africa.
I will say France and Uruguay in a draw.

Biggest sports tournament in the world? Yeah, I'll pay attention.

I have about a turd's worth of knowledge and can not offer any educated opinion on any of it.

France will comfortably win this one, uraguay are nothing to get too excited about and wouldnt call them a prominent team in the world, they usually struggle to qualify for tournaments these days even if they do have a couple of dangerous strikers (although they are the first ever winners of the tournament against Brazil back in the days of black and white TV).
Spain are the danger team, so many world class players and have an easy qualifying group.
All I ask is the chance to prove that money can't make me happy.

Of course they struggle to make this tournament. When you play in South America it is always a struggle unless you are Brazil and Argentina.

#16 in the world is definitely a strong team. Likelihood to compete against the top teams not so great. But I suspect they will give France a good run for there money.

Spain is a definite threat for sure.

We will find out about uraguay soon enough, but hard to qualify from south america??? Have to disagree there, 4 teams qualify and a 5th plays off against a north american team, brazil and argentina aside you have the likes of peru, chile, venezula, bolivia, ecquador........give me that any day over european qualifying, to mention but a few:

    England
    Germany
    Italy
    Spain
    Holland
    France
    Portugal
    Croatia
    Russia
and it goes on and on and on
All I ask is the chance to prove that money can't make me happy.

    True enough.

France hasn't looked to good coming into this tournament, nor have they opened well the last two.

I can't argue the European Qualifying. No doubt it is very difficult.

And no doubt qualifying by playing the 4th seed from CONCACAF is a joke. They are the 16th rank for a reason though. France just squeeked into this Tourney as well remember. Squeaking by ROI.

Yes their form has been poor, but my thinking is that their team is full of premiership stars of high quality, they have to hit it off sooner or later, but you can never tell with the french.

Argentina really struggled to qualify, barely made it. When you have Maradona aka maladroga I suppose coke rubs off the whole team. Anyway they qualified and Maradona said his most popular quote ever "que la sigan chupando!!!" (Which means all doubter keep sucking on it)

I have a similar attitude, although I wouldn't dare call it the biggest sports tournament in the world, considering it's completely irrelevant in the most important sports region in the world.

    Go USA!

Though I won't lose sleep over a loss like I did after game three of the NBA Finals.

Soccer is the most popular sport on earth. To think otherwise is to be in denial. I prefer basketball though, its a lot more entertaining.

I'm glad it is the most popular sport in the rest of the world. Just means I don't have to worry about watching it.

They really, really need to. I almost stopped watching the UK/US game because of them.
So many cries of inequality stem from one of group
of people doing little or nothing and then bitching
about another group that actually does something
    to improve their lives.

It may be the most popular sport in other countries, but here in America, it's relegated to WNBA-esque interest.
