Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter will be a free agent this winter and there is little doubt that he'll return to New York.
He had a down year in 2010 and his value will be a hot topic this offseason. New York will face Minnesota in the ALDS.
"Twelve million dollars over two years, maybe $10 million over two," one former general manager said. "But I think he'll probably get a lot more than that."
A scout that has worked in front offices says the Yankees are likely to wait and see how Jeter performs in the playoffs.
"I think they will wait and see what he does in the playoffs," said the scout.
He'll retire in pinstripes.
There should be no issues with the amount he's going to ask for, he's not like other players who have inflated egos.
Agreed. Had a great year last year, so hopefully he can still turn it around. Just can't see him as anything other than a Yankee. I think in a couple years he could be a great coach if he chooses to go that route.

Normally, I would agree, but it's a widely debated topic right now and it's interesting given how bad he's been this year, the fact that he's due a significant pay cut (Damon didn't take to this idea, not realizing that the economics of baseball have changed dramatically - idiot), and he may potentially be in line for a position change.

Does he mean more to the Yankees or do the Yankees mean more to him?
I agree, he's always had been a smart ball player who's made the most out of his talents. Class act.
