    Fedor Emelianenko
    Mario Lemieux
    Barry Sanders
    Mohammad Ali
    Jim Thorpe

Fedor is the greatest athlete that 99% of people have never heard of because of his chosen sports (MMA and Combat Sambo), but remained dominant for a period of over 7 years, which is unheard of in any combat sport.

Ali is a hell of an athlete for sure, but do you guys think he could have been sucessful in the NFL or another professional sport at that time as well if he would have chosen that path?

Couture is an interesting opinion in my mind. he was a grecko roman olympic alternate and then got into MMA late and has been a powerhouse into his 40's. that's an intriguing pedigree in my mind for a great athlete.

why MJ and jerry rice. MJ's athleticism didn't translate to baseball, and Jerry Rice made his accomplishments by outworking everyone in my mind. Not because of his God given abilities like many others.

True. I'm pretty sure they have a poker channel, but I can't justify watching people play cards on tv. It's kind of like watching paint dry to me...

    Michael Jordan
Cal Ripken Jr. - Anyone who stays THAT healthy for that long, he deserves some praise
    Lance Armstrong
Michael Phelps - If you are a swimmer or swam, you know how amazing his accomplishments are
Peyton Manning - He has changed the sport of football and what is expected of quarterback, and he has the most MVP titles of any player in the NFL

Cal Ripken Jr was a great player, but he isn't even close to being in the top 5. Probably would have a hard time making a top 5 list just for Baseball.

genetically gifted for bodybuilding, which includes steroid use. but i see no evidence of speed, endurance, hand eye coordination, or skill with a ball in any shape or form. while he was exceptional in his choice of sport I'm not sure he could have competed in any other professional sport. therefore I don't rank him in top 200 greatest athletes of all time.

    eric heiden should be considered.

world class in cycling and speedskating..

raced the tour and also won 5 golds in the winter olympics

to be world class at two sports is amazing, in any sport, but espically in two very demanding sports like he excelled in.
