I do understand Jim Grey's frustration, though. The guy really screwed up what was otherwise a great fight. He should have taken a point away, probably two. The knockdown in the 11th was a joke. Hope they schedule an immediate rematch, and hire a decent referee.
I watched this time and again and im understanding where the ref was coming from on that call.
His punch deflected off of his glove and landed on the low side because of that. Any contact with his junk was from his own glove, being punched.
During the fight Mares hit low a couple dozen times. The punch that caused the "knockdown" was questionable I suppose, but the way I see it it was low, and the main reason it glanced off the glove is because Agbeko was making an effort to protect himself from the multiple low blows throughout the fight. The main impact was not on the glove, but directly to the cup area, and the knockdown should not have been counted. In any case, they need to have a rematch, and have a ref that will do a better job of keeping things under control. Both fighters have a tendency to foul, with Agbeko having a reputation for using his head inside and Mares with the low blows.
