Jose might have been close if he hadn't broken down so early..

But go Barry! That's a record that'll stand for a while.

I don't care what people say about Barry Bonds he's a great player and I'm glad he got this.

Canseco? I remember his 40/40 year in 90 or 91, but he had back problems every year.

Bobby Bonds was a much nicer guy though IMO.

Yeah.. he was fast, but only for a brief period early on in his career.

Since then he's just barely held together.
Could have been the juice.. could just be bad luck.

I dont doubt that Barry is juicing, some people just have problems. I've had back problems since I was 11 or so, when a soccer teacher kicked me in the back for hitting the volley ball "wrong." However, my dad had back issues from time to time as well.

Canseco was a bit of a prick though (with his wife anyway), so I dont doubt he was probably sloppy and probably hurt himself enough times, either in the gym or etc

I wouldn't say "no contest", but he's got my vote.

What's amazing is that he is 38 years old and is in TOP form. Most other Hall of Famers were winding down at 38, but Barry has kept himself in incredible shape thanks to a very disciplined training program.

to Barry!!! I'd love to the Giants win the World Series this year, that is of course if the Red Sox don't.

I wouldn't have said he was the best but now that I take a closer look at his stats, I'd have to agree. The single season homerun and career homerun records are some of it not the most covited records in baseball. If he gets the second one too, he has my vote.

How many strikeouts per season, thats one thing I look at. Its great if a guy hits 40 homers a season, if he strikes out 130 times, he needs help.

Reggie Jackson, Mickey Mantle, Mark McGwire (to name a few) all struck out a LOT. Not uncommon for a power hitter. Their batting averages reflected it.

As far as Bonds goes, he has averaged 88 strikeouts per season, which isn't all that bad.

Babe Ruth is still the best ever. He dominated like no one in any sport. His 1921 season, in comparison to his contemporaries, is the best ever...........by far.

I think Will Clark had some 130 one season, ouch. I look at Mattingly, Boggs, Gwyn, Puckett - all low strikeouts.

Barry Bond is a great player, no doubt about it. He strike out a lot cause he always looking for the HR. I'm sure that with is power and is ability at the bat he would be able to hit for a .400 in a season. But he's always looking for the HR, cause he wants Hank Aaron's record. That's what baseball is all about nowaday Home Runs.

Jesus people. Haven't you ever heard of Babe Ruth. See, this is the kind of shit I'm talking about.Babe Ruth was not only the home run king but also had to pitch.Ruth played when there were less teams and better pitchers.Now, there are mnay pitchers that suck and are easy to hit against.And besides the point,everyone knows Barry is on roids! It's obvious! Just compare his physique to one he had in Pittsburgh. So before u say he is the best ever, please stop and think.

That's fine that you're more of a Babe Ruth fan. Among baseball fans it's definitely not a unanimous call on who's the greatest ever. A lot of guys like Ted Williams or Pete Rose too.

Oh, I stopped to think though.. And I'd vote for Barry as the greatest any day!

He doesn't strike out like the Babe did
He's 10 times the defensive player
He steals a whole lot more bases
He's gonna hit more home runs
AND he's almost 40 and still kicking ass

Barry's the man.
