    The season '03

I was thinking maybe it would entertain some of you if I chronicled the ups and downs of a high-school football team, my own, from an insiders point of view. I'll try to enter in this thing frequently, post scores and record andsome of the major
daily events of practice. I know at least some of you played HS ball back in the day and might be wondering if things have changed, I guess we'll see. I'll start getting entries in here soon.

RC - go for it. I played HS football and would enjoy reading your articles.

Prince - I don't understand your question either.

Okak so to start out I hyperextended my knee on tuesday. I'll be back either friday or saturday, monday at latest. I was standing in line waiting to be up for tackling drills, and two dudes(one 220 the other 180) came flying out of bounds and landed on my leg bending it backwards, So I'm pretty pissed about that. Saturday we have this scrimmage for registration day, If my knee is good enough to go then I'll play. 7 days til the first varsity game, I don't remember how long til JV. I'll keep you updated.

First varsity ballgame was tonight- we won 7-6. We had two touchdown's called back on penalties- one was actually a penalty and the other was one of the worst calls I've ever seen in my life. I started on kickoff return team and so I got in twice-opening kickoff and after their touchdown. I'm a little pissed I didn't get more time but we won and I can just use that for motivation anyways. As far as notable events in the game, our starting fullback got hit in the balls so hard he was vomiting on the sideline. I wore a cup my first three years but I haven't this year, I run faster without it and I figure its a small risk I'm willing to take. Most guys on the team don't, except all the freshman and most of the new guys wear one out of terror. I'll give you an update after the JV game, I'll most likely be starting at running back and linebacker, I'll keep you posted.

First JV ballgame tonight, we won 20-6 on the road. I started at strong-side linebacker, kickoff, kick return, and punt return. I made like 13 tackles(like 8 solo and a bunch of halfs) and a sack, so it was a good game for me. The team we played ran the ball to the strong side 3/4 times and their offense was the most predictable I've seen in my 4 years. We all knew what they were doing most of the time. The linemen kept blocks of the 'backers and me and my friend (the 6'2" 225 pounder who hyperextended my knee) who was playing middle linebacker ate up the backs and made like 70% of the tackles between us. The team played great, and I think I'll see more varsity time cause the coach was pretty happy with what I did.

We had our second varsity game friday gniht, we won 39-18 (was 39-6 until the subs went in.) I didn't start but I went in at strong side backer int he 1st quarter and stayed in 'til the end of the 4th. I got 4 tackles and a sack. On the busride there some girl in a car next to us on the highway pulled her top up and flashed us, which I think rallied testoterone for a hard-hitting night defensively. Friday we got our next varsity game, it will be tought but we're ready. O, and we played our second JV game Monday and lost on the road. We had to ride 2 hours in a school bus so we weren't really focused on playing when we got their. the score was 28-16, but yesterday we found out that they played a bunch of our juniors when we only brought our sophmores and freshman. If our juniors would've come it would've been a blowout. We play the same team later in Varsity and if those we're they juniors then they're screwed, we should've beaten them on jv but sucked it up, we'll take 'em on varsity.

It's been a while since I updated this, but as far as varsity we lost at home, won on the road, and then lost again at home. The two home losses we're a couple of out-of-conference games against teams with great football tradition, they both have shots at a state championship.
We are currently 3-2 with the hardest part of our schedule behind us, so we're expecting playoffs. As far as JV we lost to a team we should've killed, I couldn't understand that one. Then, we lost last night 30-12 to one of the schools that beat us on varsity that has a shot at state champs. Varsity we wanna go 7-2 or 6-3 because we've played our hardest games, as far as jv goes I'm hoping we can go 4-4 or 5-3. I've had a bit of a leave of abscence from IM but I'll try to keep it updated.

Let's see for varsity. Sicne the last update, we lost at home, won on the road, and then won on the road again. we're 4-0 on the road. I started the last game at linebacker, we lost our starting 'backer halfway through the first of those back to back road wins. We've had 4 of our players expelled outright, and another kicked off the team. All varsity players, two of them seniors, three that we're really good. My weight is at 155 right now and I'm the smallest of the linebackers on varsity, but they got em at weak side and such so I'm doing alright. Currently our record for varsity is 5-3, and we have one regular season game left. At 5-4 we prolly make the playoffs, at 6-3 we definetly make the playoffs, and we win confference. The team we play friday is tough, it's gonna be pretty even. I'm not even on JV anymore, they finished with a 36-21 loss, it hurt being there to watch. I'll let you know as to how things our going, I've just been extremely busy lately.

We lost our last regular season game and made the playoffs at 5-4, however we lost in the first round 45-20. I'll finally be back on the boards posting again, I had kind of an absence for the season. I'm setting some new goals so I'll be giong through the offseason all over again.
