Champions aren't made in gyms. Champions are made from something they have deep inside them: A desire, a dream, a vision. They have to have last-minute stamina, they have to be a little faster, they have to have the skill and the will. But the will must be stronger than the skill.

When I was in football we had something called Bengals(school mascot). You run 10 yards, drop do a pushup, run 10 yrds, drop, etc. Also had wind sprints. Such as 2 100yrd dashes, 2 50yrds, 4 20yrds and 10 10's. All in the same sprint, and be sure to touch the line with your HAND. I could write about conditioning all day!
Oh, and indian runs, you know those?

bulk up and play middle linebacker....hahah
My God I hate Indian runs worse than hate itself. Those things are of the devil, ladder sprints you described as well. We just keep throwing up and running more, and throwing up again. Scariest thing I ever heard was my coach back in 8th grade say "You guys are gonna run until I throw up....."Originally posted by PreMier

back for the first time....
Yea, we used to have to do these summersault ones too. Go 10 yards, and roll, go 10yrds and roll. The funny thing is we didnt have to do those UNLESS we puked. My conditioning coach was an x marine. What a fuckstick!
Are you a big kid? I found that the lineman hated indian runs the most LOL

So squats, squats, squats, squats, and then some more squats. Also condition all year round.............take care...............Rich
some good drills that I use to do as a linebacker. We called this the Big 3....Squats, Power Clean, & Bench Press. Also grab a 45lbs plate get in your stance (linebacker) and push out as many times as you can while still in your stance, this helps when opposing players are trying to get at your body legs and chest. And finally for speed what I use to do was run sprints 100 yards or 200 meters in the BEACH Sand and in the water.....Depending on where you live you can sub hills or if your high tech use a parchute for resistance.....Hope that works for you as it did for me.

Get a job at your largest local Walmart as a cart pusher. I did that before my senior year of high school and came in pushing linemen around like they were on roller skates, I weighed 165. I used to stack up about 80 to 100 carts at the back of the lot and then try to run them up to the store.

Oh and play lot's of neighborhood games with friends. Full contact no pads will help you feel invincible in pads and a hour long game of "smear the queer" will help your footwork and recovery time between downs.

Take some aikido classes to learn how to redirect your opponents movement.
I remember we used to play "Bull in the Ring" during practices. They dont do it anymore, probably banned it due to the 9,000 kids it crippled. Anyway the whole squad would stand in a circle with some unlucky schmuck in the middle. The coach would blow a whistle and someone designated in the circle would run full speed into the guy in the middle. The guy in the middle would charge head on "we were taught to block and tackle with our heads back then" towards the other guy, and somewhere in the middle they would meet. "POW"!!!!
Then the coach would blow the whistle again and the next guy in the ring would charge the bull.....and on and on and la-dee-daa, until the coach figured the guy in the middle was bludgeoned enough to come out. THEN some other unlucky putz would get thrown in the ring to be the bull. Thered be about 10 to 15 yrds separateing the two combatants and an unlucky bull in the middle might have to meet "head on" 10 or more opponants. I can remember broken helmuts, lots of blood, and even some concussions.
In the next life I think I'll take up violin instead.............take care................Rich

We had something called door drills at my school you'd have a defensive lineman and a linebacker on one side of a door in the middle of a field, and on the other side an offensive lineman and a running back, when the whistle blew there'd be some crazy collisions, but the best thing about it is you never knew who was on the other side of the door, our last practice as freshman we'd have to be the defense and the varsity team would be the two offensive personal, I remember getting ran over by our starting running back, he bent my face mask. But it was a damn good drill gave you plenty of motivation for getting off the ball and staying low.
