no no way ever, I would kill myself, plus Manny already said he would take a $5 million pay cut per year to resign Nomar (when the hell is he coming back!?!?!) and Pedro. He currently makes $20 mil/year. You know what he said when asked what made him suggest that?
"How much money does a guy need before it is too much?? Plus I love playing with those guys." or something relatively close to that
I was glad to hear that even if he was kinda fibbing.

    Another win tonight!!!

He didn't offer to give up anything, he offered to defer it for a couple of years.

    Still, a nice gesture nonetheless.
If sense were common, everyone would have it.

See, i told my roomie bout that (he's a bball junkie), and he said he can't do that. You can't just take money off your contrace, cuz The players union wouldnt allow it. That's exactly why Arod didnt come to Beantown. I guess its some B.S. about how if players (such as Manny) did that, it would obviously have him making less money, thus lowering the value of other players, thus the Players union makes less money. Basically its all about money. he can't do it, though it was a nice gesture on Manny's part.....afterall...you think he could spare $5million? he ONLY makes 20/year

That is sort of true. A player can defer his salary, but the club has to make it up to him in interest. And interest on $5 million per year is a lot. The Sox were not willing to pay A-Rammer interest, which is why the union blocked it. In the union's eyes, the player must always benefit from a salary restructure, and in that case he didn't.

It was very cool of Manny to make that offer, but I don't see it happening. Fuckin Derek Lowe, Pedro, David Ortiz, Jason Varitek, and Nomar are all free agents after this season. To keep all of them and pay them market value, the Red Sox payroll would hit about $230 million. I honestly only see Varitek and Ortiz coming back. Some team is going to sign Lowe for five years, $60 million. The Sox can't afford that. No way. Enjoy this roster while it lasts.

Current Sox management inherited a god damn nightmare in that all these contracts expire at the same time. Dan Duquette is a fucking asshole.
