    Raiders sign quarterback Kerry Collins

Very interesting. I guess when the Giants signed Eli Manning when he was supposed to go to San Diego kerry Collins decided to pack up & leave New York.

So where does this leave Rich Gannon?

    Here is the link:http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news;_yl...v=ap&type=lgns

I probably figured as much b/c I knew that he wouldn't stand for being a back up.

I wonder where Rich Gannon will go?

I also wonder how Kerry Collins will do in Oakland?

I don't know where he will end up. There are more starting QBs out there than jobs right now. Kurt Warner still does not have a job.

I think Collins will struggle in Oakland, but I hate the Raiders and will be glad to see it.

I can see why you hate the Raiders, but I like many of the players on the team mostly b/c of where they were before & what they accomplished like Jerry Rice, & Warren Sapp for starters & more veterans like Rod Woodson. I loved him on the Pittsburgh Steelers.

I'm glad that Collins went to the raiders instead of some crap team like the cowboys and Jerry Jones. I spent 4 years at PSU and they won the national title when I was there. They should have won it when Collins was QB and they had the best offense in the country. Damm biased polls.

I'll support the raiders a little because Collins is there, but I could have never supported the cowboys. Why didn't the dolphins try to sign him? That would have been nice.

What do you have against the Cowboys? I can understand why you don't like Jerry Jones, I don't like him either I think he's a prick, but I still like the Cowboys along with several other teams.

Did you play for Penn State University's football team? But yeah I agree they should've won the title. Remember RB's Curtis Enis & Kijana Carter? They were great & so was & still is Kerry Collins.

I feel bad for Penn State this past year though.

My cousin was at Florida State University through 1999-2002 for Law school. He was there when they won the title & when they should've won again. He did his BA in Political Science at Western Ontario in London & moved to South Carolina for 3yrs & then went to FSU Law school (has nothing to do with the topic of the thread, just an interesting piece of info). But he said the football games were great & so were the 2 gyms they have.

Back on track, I think Kerry Collins will do okay there with Jerry Rice & Tim Brown catching the ball. But they will need to get some younger WR's as these 2 are getting older.

Undefeated and unrewarded. I was hoping Kijana Carter would make a big splash in the NFL, too bad things didn't work out for him.

I think things will get better now that JoPa has signed an extension. Before, they couldn't recruite good young talent because JoPa's presence was always in question. Now that that situation has been stabilized they should start seeing better players on the roster.

Why hate someon from where they're from? I realize there are plenty of rednecks out there, but that's no reason to hate a football team. I personally like the players that this franchise has seen over the years. Like Roger Staubach & Emmitt Smith.

Well injuries were tough on him. He missed his rookie year due to injury either in August training camp or in the first 1 or 2 games.

He is currently with the New Orlean Saints. I saw him play a few times. What happened to Curtis Enis? He was drafted by the Chicago Bears in 1999 I believe? I haven't seen him around. He had good talent.

I absolutely HATE jerry jones and wish all of his endevers end in complete failure. I guess I haven't gotten over how he handled firing Tom Landary. Plus I don't like how he interfers with his coaches. He owns the team and can do whatever he wants, but if he wants to coach then he should be the couch and do everything a coach does. Plus I don't like Qunicy Cater. He was a bust a Georgia (I was there when he played) and it was a joke how jones drafted him.

Play college football? Me? No. I'm too small (5'10", 175lbs), too slow, not talented enough. Notice that I wrote "they won the national...". I didn't win jack. I'm just a fan.

As for Penn State running backs, I don't believe a single running back from Penn State has amounted to anything in the Pros. Even Joey Capalettie (sp?), who won the heisman, didn't do much of anything in the pros. When Penn State wins (not much lately) they win as a team, not individuals. Thats why there aren't names on their jerseys.

I'm from Philly and one of the most die hard Eagles fans you will ever meet. THE COWBOYS SUCK!!!

P.S. Emmitt Smith was NOT as great a running back as his numbers would make people think. True, he was durable but he wasn't that good. He was just running behind some of the greatest offensive lines in history and also Moose Johnson. If you want to talk about a good back talk about Barry Sanders. Imagine the kind of seasons you'd have seen if Barry had been running behind the Dallas line.

This is the exact reason JoPa is such a hero, he graduates almost ALL of his athletes. If they get hurt they have their education to fall back on.

That's a good question. I haven't heard from him since he graduated.

LazyByNature I do agree with you on everything you said about Jerry Jones & I think he's a prick, but I still like the team & players they've had & presently have. If he wants to coach, let him coach. I don't see too many other team owners down on the field like he always is.

Quincy Carter isn't that bad, but Chad Hutchision I think will be a better quarterback. He reminded me of Troy Aikman when I saw him play.

But it really is sad PSU RB's haven't gone anywhere in the pro's. They have enough talent. Remember Mercury Hayes WR from Michigan? He was with the Montreal Alouettes & I got to meet him from a buddy of mine & he was saying there's a lot of Political bullsh!t in the NFL. There's a lot of players with talent that should be in the NFL that aren't.

ALBOB I agree with you totally about Barry Sanders. He had great numbers with a more less sh!ty offensive line. But Emmitt Smith was a different styled runner. If you put a not so good back behind Emmitt's line, I don't know if he would be as good as #22 was.

I'm really surprised Duce Staley left the Eagles & was happy to hear Terrell ens joined the squad. Despite his attitude I think Donovan & Terrel Owens joined the squad. Despite his attitude I think Donovan & Terrel will make a nice combination. Same with Keyshawn Johnson. I can't blame them for getting riled up, but the way Owens did is inexcusable. They're clutch players, & I don't think the offensive coordinators exploited their talents enough especially in desperate situations.

Oh damn, what the hell was his name? A real quiet guy. Not too flashy. (Except for that one lucky play.) Think ALBOB, think. What was his name? Oh yeah, anybody ever heard of a Penn State Running Back named Franco Harris. He wasn't too shabby.

I wasn't too upset to see him go. I COMPLETELY respect the way he handled last year, he showed more class than any three players, I just didn't like his running style. I'm more a fan of the smash mouth, John Riggins style. Duce seemed to dance in the backfield too long. By the time he made up his mind where he wanted to go he was wrapped up by the defense.

I'm hoping and praying you're right about that combo.

Put him right next to Terrell Owens on that pedastal.

ALBOB I truly like Keyshawn Johnson he & Owens are both clutch WR's & can get a first down or TD when the team needs one.

Come on though you have to admit that San Fran & Tampa didn't use these 2 characters they way I would've used them. I can understand why they got so pissed off, but they shouldn't have acted the way they did.

One things for sure, if I had one or both of those guys on my team, I'd be giving them the ball as much as possible as they are play makers.

But Randy Moss I don't think has as much a mouth as Owens does. One guy I found except for his cocaine habit who had a lot of class was Michael Irvin.

I'm not criticising you here but remember when there was that dirty hit & Michael almost got paralized? The Philedelphia fans cheered. Even the commentators said that wasn't very classy. I think the fans now presently are much better.

I've never really cared for Dirty Irvin but NOBODY deserves to get hit with a cheap shot and if that cheapshot ends a players career the hitter's career should end also. Sometimes I'm ashamed of Philly fans, that was definitely on of those cases.

I agree with you. But I still always liked WR's Michael Irvin & Alvin Harper who went to Tampa Bay back when they had their old uniforms.

I don't respect Michael Irvin's cocaine use, but other than that I think he was a stand up guy & a great wide reciever. He didn't deserve to have his career ended by that Eagle defensive player.
At that time I didn't respect the Eagles fans at all for cheering his injury while he was on the ground I believe unconcious briefly.

OK ALBOB, you are right. I'm old, but not that old. I didn't even see him play in the pros and I forgot (didn't know) that he played for PSU.

Collin's personality will fit in well with the Raiders' "bad boy" image. It will be interesting to see what Norv Turner can do in his second try at head coach.

I saw today, that the Raiders are saying that Gannon will still start and Collins will be back-up

I'm sure he won't stand for being a back up?

Apparently he is content being a back up short term for the older Gannon, and know that he has better chance at starting sooner either via injury or retirement

While that would be a very mature attitude to take, I'm with Pepper, I don't believe it. The instant training camp starts the Silver and Black are gonna have a QB controversy.
