Sweet Ass Mountain Bike

Well this weekend i FINALLY bought a new bike after looking for about a month.

I got a Devinchi Catcus and its soooooo SWEET

A couple of questions for the pros out there.

When jumping curbs is it best to stay at a high gear?

When riding down stairs do you tend to pedal with the movement or just leave them alone? I have found that pedalling with them helps control the after movement.

My bikes name is Cack as in Cactus, he likes when i call him Cack though

I got him on Saturday at about 1pm and rode til about 3 hours then had to go to a party and got back on for another hour and a half before i had to get ready to go out. Then yesterday i bloody had to be at a boring ass bridal shower when all i wanted to do was ride. I was out of the shower at 6pm and on the bike by 7pm til about 9:30 when i went home and passed out.

Its 24 outside right now and i dont want to be at work i want to be riding. I get off at 5pm and then its home and to the gym for a short shoulder workout and then on the bike til it gets too dark to ride.

I need everyone opinion on what rechargable light to get (so i can ride longer).

One more thing. Do the butt and kitty bone bruises go away or get used to the riding after a while

....and thats my $.02

it doesn't matter what gear you're in when jumping curbs.
when I do stairs I don't pedal and sit back and don't use the front brake.

I use a middle gear on high curbs, middle so I can get up speed, but not too high in case I don't make it

I am talking curbs 2 or more feet high. If the back tire doesn't quite make it up, a lower gear will allow you to pedal up over, a higher gear will require alot more effort to do so.

i knew about the front brake nt i feathered them the first time and quickly realized i should just coast instead of falling over my handle bars

i found that i got more momentum when using a med-high gear, but then again i may be doing it all wrong. i think i use my shoulders and arms way to much. i am a newbie but i get bored easy so i have to jump something tonight i am going to rail slide jk of course

Can you jump up a 2ft high curb? That is pretty impressive for sure.

J'Bo ... you can jump up curbs too without the back wheel touching? And here I thought I was really learning quickly. I guess I'd better do some more riding.

I'm trying to master what they call a manual - a wheelie without pedaling. Pretty tough to do ... but soon I'll have it.

We used to do trials stuff, you know where you hop up on picnic tables and rocks and shit. I was never great at it, but I used to love doing it. It is amazing where you can get yourself on a mountain bike with a little balance and proper braking, moving.

It doesn't take all that long, but the one thing you should be able to do before trying this stuff is stay upright while your bike is completely still for a good couple minutes. I bet some of the pros can do it forever. I started off coming to a stop and only pedaling when I had to. After a week, I could stay up for quite a while. Next, I started bunny hopping continuously in place and then, eventually progressed to hopping up on stuff. I haven't done this in a couple years, but interestingly enough my balance is far better now than it was back then.

I am actually looking into getting another bike, prolly another Cannondale since I sold my last one.

i have been doing the no handle bar thing to be better balanced.
my boy was hopping up and down the stairs and benches but i did not.

i got clip ready shoes last night but they dont work good without the clips because my pedals arent gripping enough. i went home and threw my runners on instead. i will go back to the shop next weekend and pick up some better shoes though.

J'Bo, the only Da Vinci bikes I am aware of are custom hand built titanium frames that go for thousands of dollars each (we're talking upwards of $8,000 for a complete bike). Is that what you got, because that is a whole lot of bike for someone who is not at least a semi pro racer, and they are not really designed for dropping off curbs and stuff. They are high performace, super light bikes that are usually reserved for hard core racers. Just curious, that's all. I will be extremely jealous if that is what you got.

Ah HA! DEvinci, not DAvinci. Two different manufacturers.

Still a nice looking bike, and probably around $1000 US looking at the spec sheet. Your bike can handle curbs better than one of those $8000 bikes. Congratulations on your purchase!! Enjoy it.

BTW, clipless shoes/pedals would be a good investment. You can generate a LOT more power in your pedal strokes with a clipless setup. That makes for more bike speed and a better workout.

'boon,$8,000.00 for this????

http://www.pricetool.com/bicycles_20...ay_~full_specs

Had fun at the 24 hrs,saw the pics at Allezy

J'Bo,sounds like you are spending too much time in the seat, stand when you do stairs, your *ass/kitty* should be inches from your rear tire(a way of getting a buzzcut) and your chest over your seat. This way you won't go over your handle bars when going down stairs.
Glad you got yourself a bike...

i am not quite comfy with clipless pedals yet but i got the clip ready shoes when i am. first i need to get better gripping pedals so that i can bash my shins more i know i would get more momentum with them but i gotta find my groove first i am only bradn new

sorry i made a mistake. its a devinci

you did the hopping without clips, correct?
I have been trying to do the balance thing everytime I ride. I have also been trying to do the manual by getting a feeling of where the balance point is when doing a wheelie.

JBo ... your beau can bunny hop down stairs? How long has he been riding?

Teah man, without clips, but I started with the clips and eventually worked up to without.

BTW, it is much easier with the clips.
