The US is a flashy team. The rest of the world is focusing on fundamentals like we should be doing. Lesson #1 go back to the basics.

DJRX is exactly right. We will always have the best athletes, but they no longer have basic skills. This was so predictable. We will be lucky to medal this year. And while we are at it, quit pulling kids from high school. Three or four years in the NCAA can do wonders for the league and the players. From the players view point, I know you can't turn down the big contract - that is why the league has to step up and put an end to teenagers being drafted.

I would also like to thank DJRX for that picture.

they also don't have the pride past Dream teams had of representing their nation..what micheal and bird and johnson and robinson and malone and stockton and others had

As far as I am concerned there was only one dream team and that was the first one. They were supposed to be the greatest team ever assmbeled and they lived up to that. they were amazing. These other dream teams are just pretending. I am glad they lost. It is a wake up call to all these young pre-modonna athletes that are coming into professional sports these days. They are to cocky and think they are better than the really are. never under estimate your opponent.

I think there are two things happening here:

    1) The rest of the world is catching up to the USA in terms of hoops skills. Basketball is not just an American sport, it's played with passion all over the world. The apparent gap in talent that the original Dream Team opened up is getting smaller as other countries get better at hoops. I think that's a GOOD thing. Eventually the best players in the world will all end up in the NBA, so it'll make for higher quality play in the US.

    2) Those European teams are exactly that: TEAMS. Give our guys a chance to play together longer and they'll get better. I'd like to see what would happen if we sent the Detroit Pistons to the Olympics instead of a collection of stars. ANY ONE of our NBA teams would win the gold medal, even the Warriors.

Did you see that worthless little piece of shit, Iverson, whining to the press about getting suspended for being late? He kept saying he was a leader on the team and it didn't look good for him to get suspended. He was blaming the COACH. YOU FUCKING LITTLE PIECE OF SHIT!!! YOU WERE THE ONE WHO WAS LATE!!! YOU WOULDN'T KNOW WHAT A LEADER WAS IF ONE WAS JAMMED UP YOUR FUCKING ASS.

    p.s. I hate Alan Iverson.

I agree that he's a prick, as a person. On the court though.......poetry in motion. Always admired how he dominates (and looks good doing it) against guys that are so much bigger then him.

Still, showing any kind of disrespect toward Larry Brown is a fucking sin in my book.

Yep, he can put a rubber ball through a metal hoop, pardon me if I'm NOT impressed. Please don't take that as a slam directed at you Max, it's just that I'm about fed up with athletes in general and it's little fuckheads like Iverson that have me that way. Little piece of shit should be taken out back and beaten to within and inch of his life.

These guys have been playing together for what, a week? They have a bunch of kids and not a whole lot of veterans.

These kids will get better, they squashed the reigning world champions Serbia by like 16 today. Just give them a little time. Besides, Larry Brown is no dummy, if anyone can get something out of this team, it's him..

these are both great points. The talent out there is thickening. I think its great. In fact watching some of these teams is great b/c there are alot of things that they do that NBA playres don't do in regards of team play. One difference is that the taller european players can step out and shoot the ball from the outside much more consistently than alot of NBA big men. The team chemistry is much higher seeing as how some of these teams have bene together for years and years, and they are unified under one patriotic goal of beating the US in the games, which is great for them. Our players just think they can show up and win merely based on their greater athletic skills. Defense has been a problem for them definately. I think its sad that our best don't want to go play and represent for our country anymore, especially when you take into account the type of salaries they pull in. Its pretty ridiculous. I do understand some of their griefs of course, but it is only every four years. The US is the most talented squad buy we will see who takes it. I wouldn't be totally broken to see us lose or not even place. Maybe being embarrased on the biggest stage would give the players some incentive to come back with vengence and actually try! my two cents
