Pedro may take the enemy up on a huge offer

Apparently Pedro Marinez the Boston Red Sox's pitcher had lunch today with George Steinbrenner in Tampa Florida along with Pedro's agent.

George offered Pedro I believe a 4yr contract for $14million per year while Boston had offered him I think they said a 3yr deal for $12million per year.

I'm guessing George will get what he wants as usual.

It will suck that's for sure.

    Pedro=Yankee=

Why would he do that when he has the chance to go down in Boston history as a legend and a hero? For a few million more? Damn they're greedy.
If he does leave for NY, i hope he ends up being WAY past his prime.

I heard on the radio today that George's offer was 4 years/$60 million. BUH-bye Pedro!

While I'd hate to see Pedro leave, especially to go to NYY, he is NOT worth that kind of guaranteed money. Besides, the Red Sox lineup would POUND Pedro.

i don't think any money was discussed because if that kind of offer was put on the table the yanks would be doing a press conference today to introduce peety to the yanks. he wouldv'e jumped all over that offer.

i personally think he is looking for a 3-year deal with a 4th-year option somewhere in the $35-$40mm range and this is a ploy to get the sox to committ to a guaranteed 3rd-year. the big news out of boston right now is the meeting with pavano and how tek is looking for 5-years at $55mm with a no trade clause, which i don't see happening due to manny's stipulation that if anyone on the team gets a no-trade clause his becomes automatic and you know how boras is such a worm when it comes to negotiating that this is gonna be a slow winter when it comes to signing free agents. mainly because he represents about every big name out there this winter.

Yeah, that 4 year/$60 million rumor seems fishy because I have not been able to confirm that anywhere online, and you KNOW the Sox and Yanks news sites would be reporting it.

The Red Sox are NOT going to give Varitek a 5 year/$55 million guarantee with a no-trade clause. That is rediculous. Scott Boras is a bastard. Doug Mirabelli will fill in just fine for a year or two while Kelly Soppach gets Major League ready. Spread Mirabelli's numbers over a 162 game season, and he's a .280, 20 HR, 80 RBI guy.

The Sox are meeting Carl Pavano at Curt Schilling's house today.

All I can say is what a f#$kn' liar Pedro is.

I couldn't believe my ears when the local Boston NBC channel I get said that Pedro & his agent had lunch to discuss a possible contract with Steinbrenner himself.

I guess it really is true that money is power & b#llshit walks.

I almost never wish an injury on any player in any sport.

But if Pedro does take the Yankees up on their offer, I will make an exception.

If Pedro goes to the Yankees I hope he injures his shoulder or something & can't pitch & screws the Yankees out of their money b/c he can't play.

But if Pedro stays in Boston I wish him all the best.

I totally agree with you on this one.

It's just a few million more with an extra year.

I say have some dignity, don't sell your soul to the devil just for a little more dinero.

Show some respect to your fans, your team & your city.

    This is just pathetic.

It's the same in the NFL with the new rookies.

Tight End from Miami Kenny Winslow I believe his name is turned down a $40 contract which would've made him the highest paid TE in the whole NFL & he turned it down b/c he wanted an extra $4million or $5million tagged on to the end of the contract when these guys haven't proven themselves to be worth such dollars.

I would personally be happy riding the bench for $2million/year or the league minimum of $200K like Doug Flutie is.

Greed, greed, greed is a pathetic & sad characteristic to own.

you are exactly right. I agree 100%. I love the game of baseball, but it has become so full of greed it is almost disgusting to watch. I say, let them strike again...then lock them out or fire them or whatever, and bring up the players in the minor leagues who play for around $1000 bucks a month in the minor leagues and start all over again from the beginning. People like to blame Steinbrenner and yes, he has a lot to do with it. But, if these players had any respect for the fans then crap like that wouldn't happen. Same thing happened with Tom Glavine and the Braves...I am glad to see the Mets still suck and he is washed up. Maybe the same thing will happen to Pedro if he goes to the Yanks.

My question is, how do the Yankees keep making money? Their payroll is insanely high and I know they sell out constantly but they can't be replacing the money they're spending on these insane salaries with ticket sales and merchandise sales. Do they just lose millions every year? Or are ticket costs going up every year by an insane amount as well? How much is a ticket for a Yankee game anyway?

This is a damn good inquiry.

Maybe they've secretly increased the New Yorkers taxes LOL to support the payroll.

Advertising and television revenues. The Yankee-owned YES network makes them a SHITLOAD of money.

Unlike most Baseball owners the Yankees invest thier money on the team, whereas most owners pocket the money. But not all investments come out looking good, the Mets have the second highest payroll but have a poor record to show while Boston is in the top 5 in payroll and they finally won it all.

Don't forget that they own the Yes network, and any advertising there goes directly to the pocket.....You have to pay up the ass to advertise in Yes.....that and they probably make money in the concessions at the stadium. Does Steinbrenner own the stadium too? I wonder if he does, because that would then allow him to make more money...

All you guys getting bent out of shape about a millioniare athlete who doesn't give a damn about any of you, your city or your team. That is why I stopped idolizing all athletes years ago. All they care about is themselves and if its one more ( or maybe a million) dollar they can get from another team, they are gone in a minute. And all you Yankee fans who were jeering Pedro last month will be cheering him and worshipping the ground he walks on the first time he steps on the mound at Yankee stadium in a pinstripe uniform.

It's obvious that this guy isn't a sports fan at all or he wouldn't be saying these things.

But he does have somewhat of a point.

But nobody is worshipping any of these pro athletes.

Every city has a local team for most sports & ppl follow.

Ppl want their team to win & when their top players help win them a championship in this case 86yrs ppl want those players that contribute to stay on their team.

& when you have a team like the Yankees who buys their team, ppl lose respect for a team like that.

    That's the whole point.

I USED to be a fan of the major sports and I did watch the baseball playoffs and will watch the NFL playoffs this year. But I will not sap my soul on any of the outcomes. There are people in this town ( Philadelphia) who spent their souls the last three years on the Eagles and what was it all worth? They were ready to jump off the bridges after the team lost. And they are back ready for more punishment this year.

And they do worship these morons...they think Donovan McNabb is the messiah..watch Donovan leave town when his contract expires and some other team offers him more money...loyal to his adopted town?..yeah right...so go on fans being a loyal sap...not for me...

I'll stick to NASCAR. Those guys earn their money, they are down to earth and they haven't forgotten the fans. (yet???)

What the fuck difference does $2 million a year make? I fucking hate pro athletes who will sell their soul, and sell out their fans, for money when they have plenty as it is.
