Let's see you get in a car when it's 150 degrees and drive 190mph 2 inches from someone for 4 hours and see how you do. These guys are probably in better shape than most atheletes. Their reaction and reflexes are awesome. Not the same as football or basketball or others, but they are still atheletes.

look my opinion on this fight is opposite of most people here, I saw the entire thing go down as it happened and I don't condone attacking a fan of course, but I am tired of the pacer players getting slandered and no one else. I thought the harshness of th fines were too much and not enough for certain detroit players (namely ones with afros), but we can all say this and that sitting in thsi chair all calm and shit, its very easy to judge with peace of mind and hindsight. Bottom line thou is that if you think you can throw a beer at anyone and expect nto to get an ass beating your a fool. I could see myself reacting in a similar fashion as artest, and I certainly would react teh same as Stephen jackson defending my teammate from a mob, and I think alot of others also would when it comes down to it and emotions are flairing

    Let's get this straight.

I NEVER said i could race cars first of all. That's a COMPLETELY different question than whether Nascar is a sport. But while we're at it, i'd like to see you hit a Pedro fastball. or tackle Jamal Lewis. Or guard LeBron James. I think we'd BOTH do better driving a car than any of those.

Secondly, these guys are ABSOLUTELY NOT in better shape than most athletes. Are you trying to be funny?

Thirdly, driving cars is NOT a sport, it's an activity. It takes coordination, not athletic ability. If Nascar is a sport, then so is Monster Trucking or Playstation.

no they are not athletes, they are competitors and they work hard, no doubt, but its not a sport, its a competition, and they are not athletes, they are competitors. There is no athletic ability involved in driving a car, its reflexes and things in that category. And to suggest that they are in better shape than most athletes is ridiculous. Thye are not in better shape than I am or Flex is and we are not pro athletes by any stretch of the imagination. It doesn't mean that you can't like racing and can't enjoy it. Lets be realistic

It's obvious you two know nothing about Nascar. These guys work out harder than ayone to get in the physical shape they need to be in to survive the heat, and the physical challange they face as they wrestle with the cars and forces from the banking and speed. Have you ever seen how lean and ripped Mark Martin is? If these guys were not in great shape, they wouldn't last 5 minutes in a car. And if you don't think it's a sport I invite you down to see one with 200,000 fans in the stands.

That's right i don't know anything about Nascar, and i don't care to either cuz driving a car is not a sport.

Who CARES if they workout? You know what? So does EVERYone on IM

200,000 fans make it a sport? You proved yourself wrong. like you said, it's a "physical challenge", that's all, NOT a sport.

Mark Martin? Come on. Tiger Woods is also jacked, so what? Brad Pitt is ripped, so what, he's not an athlete.

To put it in the best perspective yet, what about Soldiers who drive tanks?

They are in great shape. They train physically with weights, running, pushups etc. etc. But they're "duty" (as is a Nascar driver's), is to drive a machine....

Most people would react the same way.If someone threw a cup of ice at me,I would go a couple rounds with that guy,but it's diffrent if your job was at stake. This is these guys' job.If you were walking around at work and a customer threw a cup of ice at you, would you rush um and starting knockin him out? There are consequences for behaving like that, and that guy who threw the Ice should get more than a couple of cracks to his face,he should be fined too.
