What is going to go very bad for the fool is that the guy he attacked still had HIS drink cup in his hand ... he beat on the wrong dude. When the fight started he was on his back and a non-fan threw a cup full of ice on him his chest. He got up and went ballistic on the wrong person ... he will get tossed for good.

WhileI agree he went after the wrongguy, I do notbelieve he should be held to a higher standard than the fans. I wish the right guy would have gotten his ass kicked. unfortunately, rage got the better of hima nd that was not the case. This is eerily similar to that incident with the guy who was taunting the baseball player and his nasty wife got hit with the chair.

You don't see it in this video, but right after Artest punches that guy in the Pistons jersey, Jermaine O'neal comes across with a running right and knocks that same guy out cold. You can kind of see it if you look at the top left of the screen.

Most of the players' comments about the incident make me sick. How you can defend the players is beyond me, talk about sticking together. Cuz we all know is ok, to run into a crowd and deck a person(who might not even be the right person) just b/c you had a couple ice cubes thrown at you.

He was staying calm until that idiot threw that cup at him.
The fans on the court deserved what they got.
If you look closely JO did not hit the same guy artest did.
The guy that artest knocked out was being restrained by security.
JO knocked out the guy that tried to tackle artest.
I agree that artest has a bad attitude but the fans are to blame

Sad but this is going to spread IMO because opposing fans will step up the 'testing' of hotheads around the league. As far as the league goes, the only thing they can do besides only selling courtside to screened individuals, is, before drafting players, putting them through psychological testing to see what their reactions would be to taunting. A lot of these guys(players) are mainly a couple years removed from the streets and Christ I'm surprised this hasn't happened before this. If the league doesn't grow a pair and deal with this and the root problem of discipline, I don't care how many superstars they have, white corporate America is gonna run away from this like they're fuckin' Al-Qaeda.You think Pepsi and Macdonalds want these guys hawking their stuff and puching their customers lights out? But what the hell do I know?

Stern will not suspend him past the Christmas day rematch of the Pistons and Pacers. Can you imagine the ratings for that game?

He attacked the wrong guy. What a stupid thug.

The best part about this is that the fan that did nothing but get hit will get a butload of cash from the players wallet. That is the only way that those imature babies will learn to control themselves. I really hope that the players get criminally prosecuted. Throwing a cup shouldnt get you decked. That is like saying I can shoot you because you threw a tissue at me. The fan should also be criminally prosecuted.

WDIV-TV is reporting that Ron Artest of the Pacers will be suspended for 30 games and teammates Jermaine O'Neal and Stephen Jackson will be suspended 20 games apiece for their roles in Friday's ugly brawl against the Detroit Pistons that saw players taking on fans both on and off the court.

According to WDIV, center Ben Wallace of the Pistons will be banned for five games.

Until your post I had not considered legal action. The fan that was wrongfully attacked can file assualt charges ... it is all on video. A slam dunk of a case even ... (sorry for the bad pun but I coudn't resist). There is a large amount of money here for the guy.

What a shame that the instigator in all of this Ben Wallace got only five games.

Dale, I live in a simple world. Maybe I'm a dumbshit but there are laws against assault and battery. There are laws aginst throwing beer on a person, too. I would have the guy who threw the beer ejected and charged with violating those laws. I realize that it pissed Artest off no end but there is still no excuse to assault that fan. Even if he would have hit the right fan. He isn't above the law. Maybe that would make him less of a 'man' in some eyes but that's the way civilized people behave. We all know that athletes are given enormous leeway in their behavior all through their careers from high school as far as they go in their sport. If you busted up somebody at work for shit like this you could expect to be out of work and not just for thirty work days. That's the way I see it, but then I'm just a dumbshit who adjusted my instincts to living among civilized people.

How noble of you to come down and chat with us commoners.

He was suspended for theseason, not 30 games, btw. Excessive if you ask me. Also, according to the announcer who was 2 feet away, the fan threw a bottle as well. I wonder what punishment the fan got, I bet he just got booted from the game.

Artest got suspended for the remaining 73 games. It'll give you PLENTY of time to work on your R&B cd, your homo

I only wish it was me who was in the stands and Artest attacked me. Not only would i be getting very rich in the near future, i would've also got the chance to throw in a few shots to that bitch
You're a funny guy, Sully, I like you. Dat's why I'm going to kill you lahst.

You think he will be thrown in jail? Personally, both he and the fan should see some sort of punishment from the law.

The worst thing to come out of this is that in the end the fans are the ones that are gonna lose because they will prolly build something to separate the fans and it will most likely mess up with the view.

BTW, I had no idea about Artest's past, I hate basketball.

That isnt a fair comparison. You dont get heckled every day at your job like pro athletes do. I am not excusing the dumb fans behavior by any means but attacking someone when you dont know who did it is really bad.

I think Artest should be suspended for the year, probably Jackson too. But the unruly should have to pay also, and David Stern is working out a plan right now, without hurting his pockets. Jeeper as far your comment that fans should get disorderly conduct charge, is a little too light. Well here is something that I saw on espn.com
    Fighting through the years
    by Jeff Merron
    ESPN.com

...Miami DL Mark Caesar douses Florida State fans with ice water (Miami vs. FSU, 1991)
While the Hurricanes celebrated their 17-16 win on the field, Caesar was dragged off it by FSU police and charged with misdemeanor simple battery, becoming the first player to be arrested at FSU's Doak Campbell Stadium. His offense: hitting fans with ice water thrown over his shoulder during the first half. "The fans were being abusive so I retaliated and threw some ice back," the 6-foot-2-inch, 290-pound Caesar said. Miami coach Dennis Erickson told the Orlando Sentinel, "On the sidelines, the fans were pelting everybody with ice, oranges, all kinds of things were flying."

I could not believe my fucking ears, the ESPN announcers were actually calling this shit "self defense." You got a plastic cup of beer thrown at you... you wanted to get even, that's not fucking self defense. You're supposed to be a professional, don't act like a good of the schoolyard.
I'm coming in the gym, i'm coming at home, i'm coming in front of 25,000 people...it's fantastic!
