Michael Vick signs 8 year extension

He's now signed through 2013. His total package could be worth $130 million. God damn that's a lot of coin.

I think they signed him more for his fan base than his ability.

For $130mil the guy has the #1 selling jersey, but not a very good throwing arm.

Oh well, tis the day we live in.
You're a funny guy, Sully, I like you. Dat's why I'm going to kill you lahst.

Doesn't look like I'm gonna be betting AGAINST the Dirty Birds anytime soon. They've got some SERIOUS weapons on that team.

I think he deserves it to be honest.

1)He makes that team shitloads of money, without him they would be 3-12 and wouldn't sell shit for merchandise.

2)He is prolly the best athlete in the NFL.

3)How many times does he put himself in harms way compared to other highly priced quarterbacks? How many times do you see a $10mil/yr QB flee the pocket just to throw it away. This nutjob runs and takes hits, which is why I imagine he required a high guarantee. McNabb used to be like this but now relies on his recievers since TO is typically getting doubled up.

On the topic of Mcnabb, I can't wait til Monday. With TO out, either Mcnabb will lose the next 2 games looking for receivers, he will run and get the shit pounded out of him causing Reid to pull him in the 1st or 2nd Quarter, or he will get injured. I hope Reid is smart enough to not play him more than 1 quarter, but I have a feeling that won't happen.
If sense were common, everyone would have it.

I agree with Flex and Dale Mabry, that Michael Vick brings the league so much money. So in that since, he deserves every penny that he gets. Now only if he can only improve accuracy , he would be the best QB in the game, but this is no easy feat.

Did you ever hear of an eight year contract extension that worked out to the team's benefit? Yeah, you'll have Michael Vick's rights, but let's go back 8 years and how many top QB's from then are still effective? Or on the same team? Brett Favre comes to mind, who else? This guy could blow out that busted leg again and be a memory by next year. Top it off, football contracts aren't baseball contracts. No guarentees. Ask Neil O'Donnell. (Sorry Jet fans) Risky. Is it a color thing? In Atlanta, maybe a good thing.

not a very good throwing arm?! Cmon Flex, he may be still developing and he still has a long way to go, but he has one fo eth strongest arms in the league, EASY. The velocity he puts on the ball is amazing. he just needs to make better decisions with it. Give it time, he WILL be the best player in the NFL in a few years, mark my words.

There are no gaurantees with a ANY contract whether it's long
    term or short term...

Top QB's that lasted 8 yrs or longer with the same team, easy,
Favre, Montana, Elway, Marino, Aikman, Young, etc,...

What does COLOR have to do with it?

    It's not a color thing, it's a TALENT thing whether it's
    ATLANTA or INDIANAPOLIS

I didn't say "not a very STRONG throwing arm", i said "not a very good arm"

Sure, the guy has a cannon. But so does almost every other QB in the league.
    He can't control that thing...

    QB rating: 76
    Completion %: 53%
    Passing Yds/Gm: 162
    Passing TD's: 13
    INT's: 12
    Sacks: 44
    Lost fumbles: 15

Don't get me wrong, he's probably THEE most exciting player to watch in the game, which is why ATL wanted to keep him, due to the $ he brings in.

But the guys' strong point is his running, CERTAINLY not his passing game. (And its not like he doesnt have recievers....Dunn is good outta the backfield, Crumper is a topnotch TE, and Peerless is capable of being good)

Let's look at the football business over the last 8 years. You start getting old with a big contract and you're last weeks news. Michael Vick or not. In a city with as large a black fan base as Atlanta, color means a hell of a lot. I'm mean his jersey isn't the largest seller because he's a superstar, he's a 'role model'.I lived in Pittsburgh all through the Kordell days and watched the town chew him up as soon as he stopped having success. Those other QB's you named played in a diffent time. Cap value will determine how long you see Vick. Just good business.
