    Tom Gordon signs with Philadelphia

Interesting that Philly would give a three year contract to a 38 year old wannabe closer, but I guess they have to make up for the loss of Billy Wagner somehow.

It also appears the Rangers have joined the bidding for Kyle Farnsworth. I thought the Yanks had him wrapped up.

Well, anytime the Yankees get weaker, I'm happy.

Tom Gordon has been solid in the regular season as the setup man for Mariano Rivera. The playoffs are another issue (Red Sox fans appreciate his postseason performace ).

No, he had a pretty solid first season with the Cubs. I just know that any ex-Cub, is usually better after he leaves the Cubs. Look at the history, you'll see, we produce some of the great players running around.

as another cubs fan flash gordon is garbage....He has great talent but no consistency...Farnsworth has awsome speed (100mph sometimes) but he is 1 dimesional...when he starts to throw his slider he gets rocked. He is one BAD ASS MOFO though. If anyone charges the mound he will form tackle him and let him know who's boss

everyone loves a bad ass on the team

well it's been 25 years since the Phillies have won a world series. it's obvious they are trying to extend their losing streak several more decades...

    Yankees signed Kyle.

The reason the Yankees didn't re- sign Gordan is the fact that he wanted a 3 year contract while the Yankees were only willing to give him 2.....I can't blame the Yanks on this one.

I thought Gordon wanted a chance to be a closer, and obviously he won't get that chance with the Yanks unless Mo goes down with an injury.

    That too.

    DAILY NEWS SPORTS WRITER

Despite a little competition, the Yankees believe they are on the verge of landing a new setup man even as they say goodbye to their old one.

Tom Gordon agreed to terms late last night on a three-year, $18 million deal to become the Phillies' closer, ending his tenure in pinstripes after two seasons. The Yankees had been hoping to re-sign the righthander but were against giving the 38-year-old a three-year pact and did not alter their stance even when Gordon's camp said it was a must.

"It was an opportunity for Tom to close again," said Josh Goldberg of the Beverly Hills Sports Council, the agency that represents Gordon. "That was very important."
