Shops till they drop Once again, Dan Snyder wins the Super Bowl of spending in March. It's just that it never translates into getting him into the real Super Bowl in February. Deion Sanders, Clinton Portis, Bruce Smith, Laveranues Coles, Jeff George, Santana Moss, Cornelius Griffin, Mark Brunell, Randy Thomas, Dana Stubblefield, Dan Wilkinson, Shawn Springs - they've all shopped at the Snyder Money Market. Snyder has owned the Redskins since 1999 and this is his resume: Two playoffs in seven seasons. Two wild-card victories. Never past the divisional round. Perhaps his way doesn't work. Just a couple of weeks ago, word was circulating that it would be mathematically impossible for the Redskins to get under the $94.5 million salary cap if an extension of the CBA was not reached. They would have to gut their team and play with 20 rookies. The cap went up $7.5 million with the new deal, Snyder restructured some deals and he's back in business. He never learns. He signed Steelers WR Antwaan Randle El, Rams safety Adam Archuleta and 49ers DE Andre Carter to deals totaling $90 million with about $30 million in bonus money. They have played a total of 14 seasons and not one has made the Pro Bowl.
The Redskins haven't been a successful franchise despite all the moves he's made to bring in quality talent. Perhaps it's because he acquires this talent at the expense of draft picks and can't continue to infiltrate his roster with quality young talent like the New England Patriots.
