I am not a huge fan of inter-league play, but these Chicago and New York games are fun to watch.

The only reason why Barret punched him was because he was a little dazed after getting knocked over and he assumed that Pierzynski came over to bump him .. (like rubbing it in his face after slamming home plate with his hand) .. when he was actually getting his helmet so he got pissed and punched him.

But my father is a lifelong Yankee fan so I used read about all the Yankee tradition, it was like greek mythology to a baseball fan. I used envy them and my father knew that so he used to tease my lousy Mets. The team was really bad in the late 70's but I loved that team. 1B. Ed Kranepool who played for them since they began. 2B. Felix Milan a short Puerto rican who choked up on the bat almost in the middle SS. Buddy Harrelson. Good fielding shortstop who had the balls to stand up to Pete Rose. 3B. Wayne Garrett. One of the million players the Mets had at third...real red headed. C. Jerry Grote. While he couldn't hit he was considered a great defensive catcher and a great game caller. Now where the Mets were always good at was in the pitching department. Tom Seaver to me is the best ever. Jerry Kooseman was a real good underrated lefty. |

I was disgusted at what the Met management did to the 86 team, they were not perfect nor where they angels but they played good. They made stupid lousy trades for a bunch of players I didn't like....Coleman, Saberhagen, Bonilla, Samuel...yuck. Now the Yankees they had seemed like a good bunch, I was always a big Don mattenling fan so I used to watch them also. I know some people hate them (you know who they are) but they were different from the older Yankees....How can anyone hate Joe Torre, Jeter, Rivera, O'Neil, Stanley. Good solid players. This Met team they have now looks good, I think Wright will be an All star for a long time. The Yankees now have some players that.....well they have A-Rod, Sheffield, Johnson....players who well are different now. |

I thought it was a cheap shot. AJ did exactly what he was supposed to do.
You see how he held his arms down before he punched him? Sore loser... Last edited by busyLivin : 05-23-2006 at 11:57 PM. |

Barret should know that he's going to get knocked out. I think he later admitted he was wrong. AJ is a character. |

I know he didn't know that, when your running full steam ahead it's hard to tell if he does have the ball.
He's crazy but he's not an asshole. |

Catchers get knocked over without the ball all the time. If they are blocking the plate, as Barrett was, he's fair game. The punch was definitely uncalled for. Still funny as hell though!!
So when are suspensions going to be handed down? I remember seeing Bo Jackson plow over a catcher once. That poor catcher should have just stepped aside and let Bo score. ![]() |

He was one of the top catchers of his time and that's saying a lot when you consider he played at the same time Bench, Fisk and Munson played......needless to say his career was over with that collision. Pete was a roid user, wasn't he? He was pretty stocky back then. |
