(Mino Look) Cubbies to make move

As soon as Lou Piniella landed in Chicago as the new Cubs' manager, the A-Rod to the Windy City rumors really heated up. In fact, Rodriguez was linked to the Giants when it was thought Piniella might wind up there. And when Lou was being anointed as the new Yankee manager by the New York media, it was suggested that represented the best and perhaps only chance of keeping Rodriguez with the Yanks. Piniella has said he expects the Cubs to push hard for A-Rod, but says it was never brought up in the job negotiations that preceded his hiring. The problem with this scenario is the Cubs lack the pitching depth to make this happen. Young Rich Hill was mentioned as a possibility, but any deal that doesn't involve Carlos Zambrano won't fly, and how could the Cubs do that? Besides, between Aramis Ramirez now being on the free agent market, Alfonso Soriano apparently the Cubs' main target, and trying to figure out who will be in the rotation, Chicago seems to have bigger fish to fry right now.

Across town, the Chisox do have the pitching necessary to make a deal work. Apparently, GM Ken Williams approached the Yanks about an A-Rod deal built around one of Mark Buehrle, Freddy Garcia or Javier Vazquez headed to New York. Yeah, I bet Vazquez and the Yanks are in a big hurry to try that marriage again. A more likely deal could involve young Brandon McCarthy and Joe Crede. The Sox have been reticent about tying Crede up with a long-term deal until he has surgery and the specter of his wonky back is finally removed

I think an A-Rod for Kerry Wood and Mark Prior deal would be awesome for the Yankees.

I dont think the Yankees would want them, neither of them can stay healthy for more than 1/4 of a year! I would get more out of Arod than them 2 bed ridden schumucks.....of course can you tell I am a Cards fan?!?! Oh the World Series Champions...haha.

As a RED SOX fan, I think that deal would be great for the Yankees.

Haha....thats right way to think ahead. I would think more of on the lines of Arod for 2 Rawlings gloves and a sack of SunFlower seeds.

Philadelphia is desperate to divest itself of Pat Burrell and badly needs an upgrade at third base. The Philadelphia Inquirer floated the Burrell for Rodriguez idea, suggesting that Burrell could DH for the Yanks, allowing Jason Giambi to play first base. The only thing is, the Yanks don't exactly want Giambi to play first base, so I'm not sure that idea makes sense, even though it would certainly allow both teams to rid themselves of headaches. From the sounds of it, Philly is more interested in another Yankee headache, Gary Sheffield, in a deal that would send Gavin Floyd to New York.

I just read that George had some health problem......

He was pale, and his eyes were closed — it looked like he had fainted," sophomore Emily Riehl, who was two rows behind Steinbrenner, told The Daily Tar Heel.

Steinbrenner fainted at a memorial service for football great Otto Graham in Sarasota, Fla., on Dec. 27, 2003, was hospitalized and then released the following day. Since then, he has taken an increasingly less public role, limiting his public comments.

The 76-year-old Steinbrenner and his family were watching his granddaughter, junior Haley Swindal, perform the lead role of Sally Bowles in "Cabaret" on Sunday at the Playmakers Theatre on the University of North Carolina campus.

According to The Daily Tar Heel, a call was placed to the Department of Public Safety saying a man had chest pains. After paramedics arrived, the remainder of the performance was canceled, Danny Coles, assistant music director for the production, told the paper. Steinbrenner was taken to the hospital in an ambulance

I say let's give A-rod a chance but please get rid of that cancer called Sheffield.

George felt ill during the performance, which was held in a Revolutionary War auditorium with no air conditioning and the windows closed tight - it was very hot," Rubenstein said in a statement Tuesday. "An ambulance was called, and it took George to the hospital where he was examined head to toe. George stayed overnight in the hospital and was released on Monday morning, at which time he flew home."

According to Rubenstein, Steinbrenner said: "I had absolutely no pain." While at the hospital, Steinbrenner was "examined head to toe," Rubenstein said.

Rubenstein said Steinbrenner "is quite feisty" and was in contact with team president Randy Levine and chief operating officer Lonn Trost. But Steinbrenner was not at Legends Field on Tuesday, workers at the team's spring training complex said.

"I was disappointed that I couldn't watch Haley's full performance on Sunday," Steinbrenner was quoted as saying in Rubenstein's statement.

Yeah, it's actually his third time.

Most people hated him but the 1 thing I admire about him is that he always tried to have the best team out there.

I think Sheff would produce a bit more however. He is MVP marterial where as Matsui is not.

I like Gary. And the cubs better not be trying to get my 'Fons.
You guys are going to lose. You might as well just cheer for me, because Boston isn’t winning in Boston for the season opener. I’m sorry. " - Gilbert Arenas

The Cubs can get whoever they want because they arent going to do any better than second last in the central, they suck and their 2 so called stud pitchers can never stay healthy.

Well, I want to keep Fons, we love him here and he's the only highlight of an awful season.

Oh, our rookie of the year candidate Ryan Zimmerman was a highlight too. Other than those 2, we suck.

Yeah he was pretty good. However if Chris Duncan wouldve played all year he wouldve blown everyone out of the water. He played like half the year and hit 22 homers.
