This is gonna be a great end to the season and interesting BCS

The BCS is Still up in the air. All the following teams are still alive for a BCS automatic berth :

ACC _ Georgia Tech, BC, Wake Forest, Virginia Tech
Big East _ Rutgers, Louisville, West Virginia
Big Ten _ Ohio State (In championship game)
Big 12 _ Nebraska, Oklahoma, Texas
PAC 10 _ USC (Guaranteed at least Rose Bowl, possibly Championship Game)
SEC _ Florida, Arkansas, LSU

Teams alive for the 4 at large Bids: Michigan (in already); ND (in already); Boise State; SEC championship game loser: Arkansas, Florida, or LSU; WVU and Wisconsin (probably will be the best 2 teams left out).

If everything goes as planned and favorites win out, this what we are looking at:

BCS title game: Ohio State vs. USC
Fiesta: Texas vs. Boise State
Rose: Michigan vs. LSU/Oklahoma (whomever has a better showing in loss)
Sugar: Florida vs. Notre Dame
Orange: Louisville vs. Georgia Tech.

Wow its tough to give USC the number 2 spot after losing to a team like that. And it would be hard to bump Michigan down because they did lose to a #1 team. Oh well only time will tell.

In college football, unless your undefeated, the pollsters look at each teams individual body of work. If they win out, thats wins over Arkansas, Nebraska, Cal, ND, and UCLA. Much more impressive than Michigan who's quality wins are ND, Wisconsin, and Penn State.

Yeah I know, but I would think since there are so few loses with both teams they would just check out who they lost to, but yeah I know what you mean. I have never liked the BCS, but you cant make college kids play in a playoff. Just makes their season to long and its not like they get paid for it. Hell thats an extra 4-6 games. There would be alot more injuries.

Won't happen, college finals are right in the middle of all that.

People, other than Michigan fans, don't like the idea that Michigan lost to them already. A lot of AP voters have already said that if Michigan wins there is a good chance of a split national championship. Which kinda sucks.

Late afternoon yesterday, LSU 31 - Ark 26 in Arkansas. SEC football is incredible.

Texas lost to Tex A&M 12-7... They need Oklahoma to lose to Oklahoma State today, to get in Big 12 Championship Game.

Will hurt USC & Florida in the computer polls, but won't effect them in human polls. Gonna make it tough for Florida, they will have to destory Arkansas in SEC championship game to have a shot.

There's talk that if USC beats ND tonight, the Rose Bowl wants a Michigan V ND rematch. It'll be ND's first time in the Rose Bowl in 81 years! I personally would like to see ND play in the Rose Bowl, but not against Michigan again. I'd rather see them play the SEC (Florida or Arkansas), Big 12 (Nebraska, Oklahoma, or Texas), or Louisville.

What a huge game for both teams tonight! Easily the best inter-sectional rivalry in college football, and probably second overall to only the Michigan v OSU border rivalry. Everybody knows USC is playing for a National Championship berth. ND is playing for a BCS position (most likely in already) and revenge from last years "Bush Push". Also USC has not lost at home since 2001 and this ND senior class would be the first to graduate without beating USC in the 72 year history of the rivalry. And don't count Quinn out of the Heisman race just yet. Numbers wise he's right there, just depends on how the voters decide to vote this year, wins or numbers.

Schiano at top of list
UM has strong interest in former Hurricanes defensive coordinator Greg Schiano -- now head coach at Rutgers -- but he has been noncommittal about his interest.
BY BARRY JACKSON
bjackson@MiamiHerald.com

MIKE DERER/AP
COVETED:Greg Schiano is earning $1.1 million this season with Rutgers, and indications are UM is prepared to top that. With president Donna Shalala vowing to offer a ''competitive'' salary, the University of Miami on Friday began the search to fill what athletic director Paul Dee calls ''the best'' coaching job in the country.

Though Dee did not comment on any candidates, Rutgers coach Greg Schiano has emerged as a top target, according to a university official. But it remains unclear whether Schiano would accept an offer to return to UM, where he was defensive coordinator in 1999 and 2000.

Even one official close to Schiano said Friday he wasn't sure what Schiano would ultimately do, aware Schiano enjoyed his experience at UM but noting he and his family are happy in New Jersey, where he grew up. Schiano is earning $1.1 million this season, and indications are UM is prepared to top that. Rutgers, though, is expected to give him a raise to try to keep him. Schiano's buyout is $250,000.

He's appealing to UM not only because of his success at Rutgers -- the Scarlet Knights are 9-1 and ranked 15th by The Associated Press -- but also because of his history with the UM program and his deep contacts in South Florida high schools, where Rutgers recruits heavily.

Schiano, who has built a moribund Rutgers program into a Bowl Championship Series game contender, did not comment about the UM job Friday and never has publicly ruled out taking the position.

SHANNON TO INTERVIEW

Though Schiano appears to be the front-runner if he wants the job, UM defensive coordinator Randy Shannon also will receive strong consideration, according to two officials who are in close contact with the administration.

Shannon is well-regarded internally as a coach and recruiter.

Dee said Shannon will be a candidate and will be interviewed. Shannon, a former UM linebacker, has never been a head coach but has served as UM's defensive coordinator for the past six seasons after three years on the Dolphins' staff, including one as linebackers coach. Dee said previous head-coaching experience is ''important'' but not a prerequisite.

Dee, who will be heavily involved in the search, said former Big Eight commissioner Chuck Neinas will be a consultant, or a head-hunter, through the process.

Neinas, who was executive director of the College Football Association, assisted North Carolina before Butch Davis was recently hired.

If Schiano and Shannon don't end up with the job, other potential options would include Texas Tech's Mike Leach, Arkansas' Houston Nutt, West Virginia's Rich Rodriguez, Tulsa's Steve Kragthorpe and Texas Christian's Gary Patterson. Georgia coach Mark Richt, a former UM quarterback, and Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville, a former UM assistant, told ESPN they are not interested in the job. Steve Spurrier, responding to Internet reports, said Sunday he will remain at South Carolina.

New candidates could emerge after UM consults with Neinas and others. Shalala said in a statement that the school will ''consult widely with our alumni, including athletes now or formerly in the NFL,'' in addition to UM supporters, ACC commissioner John Swofford and other conference commissioners.

Of the timetable, Dee said, ``Our hope would be to have a coach as soon as practicable. But given the circumstances of people's games and when they might be available, bowl games and the like, it might be a little longer than we would otherwise have taken.''

UM officials indicated the school would not be restricted financially in its search, even though it must pay Coker nearly $3 million as part of a termination clause built into his contract.

''The university is prepared to use its resources in an appropriate way to make sure we get the right head coach,'' Dee said.

Several UM officials said they would be surprised if UM hires Wisconsin athletic director Barry Alvarez as coach, although he has a close relationship with Shalala and was pursued when Davis left UM. Alvarez, who was head coach at Wisconsin under Shalala, told ESPN previously he would ''never say never'' to a return to coaching.

MUST BE A RECRUITER

In a statement delivered to media and UM students, Shalala said Miami intends to ``recruit a great coach. We are looking for an experienced and successful coach of the highest integrity who understands and loves the Miami tradition of success and football family.''

Shalala said the new coach ''must be a great recruiter, of high character, committed to winning championships, academic success, and to the University community.'' She also wants a coach ''who is well-organized, inspirational and can attract a first-rate staff'' and has the ``personal qualities to be actively engaged with our community, alumni, and team supporters.''

Shalala also announced she has directed Sergio Gonzalez, UM's vice president/advancement and communication, to begin a six-month ``fund-raising sprint to secure commitments from our supporters/donors to finance competitive coaching contracts and build and renovate first-class facilities.''

Though the UM coaching job is high-pressure, Dee said the position ``is as fine a job as you can have. This is not a job for the feeble. This is a job for someone that's excited by college football.

''It takes a unique individual. This is not a job for somebody that's a builder,'' Dee said. ``This is a job for somebody that's out front and wants to be at the top and isn't frightened away by the expectations.''

That would suck major ass if Schiano goes to UM. Reminds me a bit of when Gary Barnett took lowly Northwestern to the Big Ten title, and was then hired away by Colorado.

Regardless though, USC has been playing like shit the past month. Cal was their one decent game recently, but then again Cal got absolutely housed by Tenn earlier in the season. Tenn now has 3 losses and almost lost another 3 times, including today at Kentucky.
