Pound for pound Anderson Silva is the best MMA fighter alive, no question about it. Fedor is #2. BJ Penn/GSP probably #3/#4.

I was actually overwhelmed. We went to a bar to catch them and they were on screens that were side by side. I felt like I was at a music festival and my 2 favorite bands were on stage at the same time. Awesome night for MMA.

this is subjective, and dont agree. silva is very technical, but so is fedor. i think if fedor cut weight to light heavy, and fought silva, he would crush him.

I don't think pound for pound, or weight class aside there is a MMA fighter that can take fedor. He is a bad MF'er that lacks nothing. His striking is crazy, he can take as much as he dishes out, and his ground game is rediculous. I can't see anyone beating him unless its just down right lucky shot on the button...and I don't see that happening. He will probably retire before he loses in this sport.

and silva beating irwin i think that was never really in doubt thought the guy would last longer though

sorry mate ye LHW

he was maybe worn out from cutting, he looked explosive in the first half of the first round.

was decent enough, the knee to the head was a bit suspect dont know how he could ahve thought he was anything other than a downed opponent. it may or may not have made the difference but i think cb would have won it one was or another. i think he would beat amir if he gets a third chnace.

what did u make of the fight cant mind the names where the guy got jabbed in the eye, i was shocked with how that was decided.

No it really isn't subjective though. Fedor has had 2 fights in the past year, one being against some 7 foot asian freakshow that nobody knew. He was idle for too long to be considered pound for pound #1. It's not even that close really. Most experts actually even have Fedor at #3.

To be fair, I think we have to give Vera another shot @ 205. Mike Swick looked horrible the first time he cut to 170 and he had a great follow-up performance.

This past Saturday's "Affliction: Banned" event drew a total attendance of 14,832 -- a small increase from the night's announced attendance of 13,988 -- for a live gate of $2,085,510.

The numbers, certified by the California State Athletic Commission, were today sent to media members, including MMAjunkie.com (UFC blog for UFC news, UFC rumors, fighter interviews and event previews/recaps | MMAjunkie.com).

The debut event for Affliction Entertainment took place at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif. Part of the card aired on FSN before switching to pay per view.

Of the 14,832 total tickets, 11,242 were sold, and 3,590 were complimentary and given away.

Although initially announced as a sold-out event, the CSAC reports that 15,572 tickets were available, and 740 went unsold/unused. The majority of those "deadwood" tickets were from the $200 (352 tickets) and $100 (248)sections.

Among the event's 3,590 complimentary tickets, most were for the cheapear seating areas, including the $150 (1,079), $100 (822) and $50 (652) sections. Ticket prices ranged from $45 to $1,000.

So how do Affliction's total attendance (14,832), paid attendance (11,242) and live gate ($2,085,510) figures stack up to the competition?

Here are how three recent UFC events at the Honda Center fared:

UFC 76: 13,770 tickets (11,817 paid) for a $1,985,000 gate
UFC 63: 12,604 tickets (9,343 paid) for a $1,582,370 gate
UFC 59: 13,814 tickets (13,060 paid) for a $2,191,450 gate

Main-event winner and new WAMMA heavyweight champion Fedor Emelianenko earned a base salary of $300,000 for his first-round submission victory over Tim Sylvia, who earned $800,000.

MMAjunkie.com (UFC blog for UFC news, UFC rumors, fighter interviews and event previews/recaps | MMAjunkie.com) today received the list of salaries from the California State Athletic Commission. The event took place this past Saturday at the Honda Center in Anaheim.

In addition to the headliners, other top earners included Andrei Arlovski ($750,000), Matt Lindland ($300,000) and Josh Barnett ($300,000).

The total disclosed payroll for the event was $3,332,100.

* - Fight postponed due to time constraints. Both fighters paid negotiated salaries.

Now, the usual disclaimer: the figures do not include deductions for items such as insurance, licenses and taxes. Additionally, the figures do not include money paid by sponsors, which can oftentimes be a substantial portion of a fighter's income. They also do not include any other special bonuses the organization may have paid its fighters.

In other words, these are simply base salaries reported to the commission and do not reflect entire compensation packages for the event.

Agree 100%. Can't draw conclusions based on his first fight at 205.

EDIT: Damn, Affliction fighters made some serious dough. No wonder they were able to draw up such a sick card.

Hell yeah they did, and Fedor got a lot more than the 300k they are reporting there. I've heard as much as 1.5 mil.

I can't wait to see what they did for PPV buys. We went to a bar that is typically a popular fight destination and it wasn't nearly as packed as they are for UFC's.

Spike TV today announced the ratings for the event, which took place at The Palms Las Vegas.

According to near-official figures, Saturday's three-hour Spike TV broadcast outdrew every other channel -- both network television and cable stations -- with men ages 18-34 (903,000), men 18-49 (1,550,000), men 25-34 (622,000), and persons 18-34 (1,326,000).

Saturday's event, a late booking put together to counter Affliction Entertainment's debut event, also featured notables such as Brandon Vera, Hermes Franca, Frankie Edgar, Anthony Johnson and C.B. Dollaway.

As MMAjunkie.com (UFC blog for UFC news, UFC rumors, fighter interviews and event previews/recaps | MMAjunkie.com) previously reported, the two highest-rated events in UFC-Spike TV history are UFC 75 and UFC Final Chapter: Ortiz vs. Shamrock III. Each event peaked with approximately 5.9 million viewers.

The highest-rated MMA event on U.S. television -- including network and cable TV -- was the May 31 "EliteXC: PRIMETIME" event on CBS. The nation's first-ever live MMA event on U.S. network TV peaked with more than 6.5 million viewers.

Pretty good numbers for throwing an event together at the last minute. Well above the numbers of the average UFN.

The 24-year-old Brazilian was already on the fast track to an eventual title shot. And a win over Sanchez would certainly put him over the top.

“The Nightmare” has rebounded from back-to-back losses in 2007 to stop Luigi Fioravanti and David Bielkheden, respectively, in equally impressive fights. The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) season one winner seems to have recaptured his form that had most pundits expecting that he would one day soon challenge for a belt.

Again, a win over a very explosive fighter such as Alves will put him right there.

Talk about a great fight.

UFC 90 was recently made official; therefore, rumored bouts and possible match ups are scarce right now. Expect that to change real soon, however.

I'm really psyched about this one, talk about fireworks.

Keith Jardine (13-4-1 MMA, 5-3 UFC) will look to rebound from his recent loss to Wanderlei Silva when he meets Brandon Vera (9-2 MMA, 5-2 UFC) at UFC 89, an event that takes place Oct. 18 at The NIA in Birmingham, England.

Jardine today announced the fight on an Albuquerque radio show.

The light heavyweight bout will likely end up on the night's main card, which currently features a headline bout between Michael Bisping and Chris Leben.

However, the UFC has yet to announce the fight.

Jardine most recently suffered a stunning, 36-second knockout to Wanderlei Silva at UFC 84. The loss came right after the biggest win of his career -- a split-decision victory over Chuck Liddell in September 2007.

With a May 2007 loss to Houston Alexander, the Team Jackson fight has now lost two of his past three fights -- the first such stretch of his seven-year career.

Vera, meanwhile, will look to shake a recent three-fight funk. After a unanimous-decision loss to Tim Sylvia at UFC 77, Vera then suffered a first-round TKO to Fabricio Werdum at UFC 85. He then decided to drop to 205 pounds, and though he scored a unanimous-decision victory over UFC newcomer Reese Andy at this past weekend's UFC Fight Night 14, the performance was flat and heavily criticized.

The fight with Jardine is essentially a must-win for Vera, a former top heavyweight contender who had, at one time, been promised a title shot with then-champ Tim Sylvia, but a feud with his manager kept the fight from happening. Since returning from that year-long layoff, Vera -- who began his UFC career with four consecutive stoppage victories -- has posted three lackluster performances.

Guess we'll find out soon enough if Vera can truly cut it as a top LHW!
