Yankees get Raul Mondesi
Another example of the rich getting richer. That's all the Yankees need is another proven power hitter.
Looks like Toronto is unloading their high salary players. The Yankees are picking up a good chunk of Raul's contract. Look for the Jays to trade Carlos Delgado and his $14 million per year soon. |

I think that trade had more to it, considering the Jays traded him for the equivalent of a bat bag...there were problems between Mondesi and Tosca for a while, so they probably just decided to get rid of him. He's batting .244, with 15 home runs right now...that's not worth $11 million IMO.
Today I can do what others will not so that tomorrow I will do what others cannot.
The difference between winners and losers is that winners do things that losers don't want to do. |

anyone couldv'e made the trade for mondesi. hell stewart and cruz, jr. are still on the trading blocks. i hate it when people just go into a it's all about the yankees just throwing out money. listen, they are committed to winning at any cost. how can you blame them for going out and getting a proven player. any team wouldv'e traded for him if they could make the committment. i can go on for hours regarding this topic but it just simply comes down to the best team getting the best players, simply put!

I wish the Sox would throw some green around. Thome and Delgado are available!!!! (for the record, my "rich getting richer" comment is aimed at the Yankee talent pool, not their financial situation) |

sorry i just so defensive when people say it is just because the yanks throw around money!
thome in my mind is the next "big" star that is going to get traded since the indians have committed themselves to a rebuilding effort. i here ya about being a red sox fan. i'm sorry! since we are approaching the all star break it is only a matter of time before the bottom falls out on your team. maybe they will be able to hold it together for the wild card but annehiem and oakland i think are playing to well at this point in time and particularly oakland is know at least the last few years as a second half team. just my 2C worth! |

i would take pedro in a second. i don't think they will ever let nomar leave and with jeter & soriano holding the middle together for the yanks they have no desire for him.
i just hope that mother nature hasn't finally set in on the rocket, he hasn't had a decision in over 6 starts and you never know whick El duque is going to show up on a daily basis. at least it seems that pettite is back on track and messina continues to be the anchor. also all the rumors about rivera being hittable and beatable. well with the 24 days off without throwing look out for him to have an awesome second half. i'm just amazed at the way lowe has pitched in the first half, don't think he can continue this pace for the rest of the year and he has also lost his last 2 out of 3 decisions - can you say coming back down to earth. also how in the hell did manny get voted as a starter in the all star game. i mean how long was he out 7 weeks and still is starting. i think plenty of other young outfielders have shown the progression to start ahead of him. must have been every person in Boston voted at least 5 times each for manny! ![]() |

Manny should not be in the All Star game. You can't miss two months and be voted in. That's unfair to other, more deserving players.
Lowe is pitching great. It's really nice to see him doing so well after the beating he took last year. I see no reason why he can't pitch that well in the 2nd half. He was a starting pitcher his entire career until a few seasons ago. He pitched well enough to win his last start (2 ER, 5 hits), but the Sox scored only one run for him. No one is touching the Yanks. They have too much depth, too much power, and too much pitching. BTW, I voted online yesterday 15 times for Johnny Damon to be voted into the All Star game. ![]() |

and sure enough he was picked as the 30th player selected. i voted for thome a couple of times, think he was definately deserving of the honor.
it really is not that i don't see lowe continuing to pitch well throughout the remainder of the year it is just that i don't see him continuing to get the great run support he has become accustomed to. i think he is going to come up on the short end of the stick in close games down the stretch. plus i still don't think the bullpen is deep enough to hold things together. yes urbina has been wonderful throughout the first half but don't tell me that you heart isn't beating a mile a minute every time he comes into the game! hell when rivera comes in you can just about guarantee a win, i also feel that karsey has finally hit his stride and is going to become even more of a presence in the second half. only guy i have concerns about this year is stanton. he hasn't put a string of appearances together that you saw out of him last year. mendoza is finally healthy and finding his groove again. only flaw that i see with this year's team is the dependence upon the long ball. last night however they started it all off with the small ball approach and look at ventura he already has 60rbi's only one short of his total production of last year. my guess is that they give him a 1 or 3 year deal at the end of the year. henson is no where near ready for the major's. on the yes network in NY you get to see a couple of tripleA games and seeing him play you know he is not ready yet. i say let him continue to blossom and get what we can out of ventura now that he is healthy. word is that they are still not 100% happy with left field and maybe talking to some teams about acquiring someone there. just a little NY info for ya! |

Forget Mondesi's offensive skills the yankees filled a much needed void in RF! Mondesi has a rocket arm!
