For dg806
so I went to an LBS near my house that stocks CANNONDALES. I was in search of new shorts... but while I was there, I said, "I'd like to try a Jekyll." The "kid" was more than happy to help me. "oh great, " he said. "We just got this 2003 in. It has a Black fork on it - but in my opinion, get the lefty, it's much better." When I asked him why, he really didn't have a good reason....
The 2002 I rode was a 500 - XT rear der but deore crank, magura discs but toe clips - and a remote lockout for the rear shock - very odd combo of parts. And of course, the lefty. Anyway, it was ok. It was rather stiff. The 2003 I actually preferred. It had the Black fork, clipless pedals - and crappy Cannodale V-brakes. Overall, it was ok. I certainly didn't fall in love with it. Ok there - HAPPY?

Wow! I am impressed. Glad you at least tried it. But sounds like you knew more than the guy at the bike shop! The stiffness was probably in the rear shock..too much pressure for you weight I'm guessing. And you can adjust the lefty too! There is a screw(bottom of lefty inside the fork, under rubber seal). The Magura do kick ass! Hey, it has to grow on ya! Did you find some shorts??

Yeah, that kid didn't know what he was talking about. I asked him how much the frame weighed, and he did not know. I asked him the Jekyll is considered a freeride bike or XC. He said XC (he's wrong...it's an all-mountain...closer to freeride than XC).
Besides the dumb kid, the Jekyll looked pretty sharp. Cool frame design. And I did not know you could swap out Cannondale parts (e.g. the Black fork, the Hayes disks, the Shimano crankset, and Cane Creek headset). I always thought Cannondale frames had to have Cannondale parts. |

I know when I went to raceface cranks and rings, I had problems with clearance on the BB! I ended up putting a little longer bb on mine so the front dr would clear and change gears! It's getting better every year with being able to exchange parts and I love that! I love cd frames because their light, but some of their headsets, bb's. cranks and rings, I am not crazy about! Their are lots of other higher end products out their that work much nicer! They just try to keep the cost down on the bikes because their frames are handemade in the USA and it cost them more to produce here..hence high price!

Yep, I totally agree! Customer service everwhere now sucks..not too many places left where people care anymore! But like you said, 2 to 5 grand for a bike, you better roll out the red carpet!
