Manny would accept trade from Red Sox, even to... Iraq?

It's just Manny being......stupid.

Manny would accept trade from Red Sox, even to... Iraq? | NECN

Manny would accept trade from Red Sox, even to... Iraq?

Play video

(NECN) - According to a report by ESPNdeportes.com, Manny Ramirez said that he would accept a trade to another team.
In the interview, Ramirez said, "If the Red Sox are a better team without Manny Ramirez, they should trade me... I will not object... I don't have any preferences... I could choose a team that offers me the best conditions or one in the chase for the postseason... I don't care where I play, I can even play in Iraq if need be... My job is to play baseball"
Manny goes on to say that he doesn't want to be a problem and a distraction to the Red Sox, but that he thinks the Sox are trying to portray him as the "bad guy".

Did you see him jog to first base on that ground ball to 3rd base? When I saw how much time it took for Figgins to get to the ball and setup to throw, I thought there would be no way to get Manny.

He does this every year.

That and he is always lazy on the base paths and in the field.

ESPN is reporting that the Sox and Marlins are in "serious talks" with the Marlins about a trade for Manny.

I think the Sox should send Julio Lugo and Manny to the Marlins for Hanley Ramirez.

Jason Bay's numbers are actually very comparable to Manny's this season. Bay's got a lower BA but a couple more HR's. Obviously Jason Bay doesn't have the career success as Manny, nor is he a proven post-season perfromer like Manny is. Taking all emotion out of this though and thinking about it logically, replacing Manny with Bay in the lineup isn't that big a downgrade.

Word is though the Sox have to pick up the 2009 and 2010 options on Manny and pay the entire thing if Florida is to take him. YOWSERS.

The whole reason Manny is acting the way he's acting is because his cocksucker agent Scott Boras is telling him to act this way. Manny will only waive his 10/5 no-trade rights if the team he's going to agrees not to pick up the options.

The Red Sox would be taking on the roughly $7 million dollars still owed to Ramirez for this season, but nothing thereafter.

That's insane. He is not going to make more than $20 per season if he becomes a free agent. He's talking about getting a $100 million contract, too. That's laughable. Obviously Boras didn't learn his lesson from the A-Rod debacle.

He won't get more than $40 million on the open market but that's not a concern of Scott Boras'. The current deal Manny is being paid for was negotiated by a different agent, thus Boras receives no money if/when the Red Sox pick up those options. On top of that, Ramirez is pretty much playing each year for his option to be picked up which he doesn't think is fair.

What is it with professional athletes signing contracts and then being baby's forcing teams to make a move to save face?

It's unfortunate that Manny's acting the way he's acting, but I'd be shocked if Scott Boras wasn't behind all of this.

That is an excellent point that I hadn't even thought of.

It's very disappointing to see Manny acting like this. The Sox have paid him $160 million so far and he feels he's "owed" more. WTF?

It's beyond disappointing.

Thing is, I'm not entirely sure this team can win a World Series as presently constructed. If you subtract Manny and add Bay (for the sake of math, we'll say it's an even trade off even though I don't think it is), this team isn't improving any of it's glaring holes.

They should forget about Pittsburgh, take Hermida and the prospects from Florida and use the prospects to upgrade the black hole that is the catcher position in addition to acquiring Ron Mahay who has been offered for Brandon Moss according to numerous sources.

Yeah, the point of this trade certainly would not be to fix any holes...it's just to get rid of a disgruntled and disinterested Manny.

Plus Jason Bay is Canadian, so you know you will get a champ in return

Sox gave up Manny Ramirez and two minor leaguers for Jason Bay. Manny had to go, but it looks like the Sox got raped.

Bummer to see Brandon Moss go.

Craig Hansen has been a huge disappointment. I do hope he develops into a good pitcher in Pittsburgh.

It's a shame it came to this. Boston would not have won the 04 and 07 World Series without Manny, and Manny certainly gave us lots of great moments.

Good luck, Manny. Thanks for everything.

the Sox really got raped on this one...Manny for Jason Bay...wtf is Boston's front office thinking? When I heard the deal, I couldn't stop laughing...

Chuck Norris once lost his keys and couldn't remember where he put them. So he tortured himself for half an hour until he gave up their location.

Boston also sent CASH to the Dodgers to help offset Manny's salary.

I'm pretty sure he was behind it, watch...he won't be the same player he was in Boston.
Boras needs to be Banned from Baseball, really.

They pretty much had to. He wouldn't shut up and there weren't many deals on the table. Sucks to see him go, but he wanted out 100%. It's ashame it couldn't have happened with more time before the deadline to make a better deal for the Sox.

goodbye Boston, hello Hollywood as Manny Ramirez is dealt to Dodgers Thursday in a three-team trade deadline blockbuster.

There was more good news for the Yankees Thursday - and it came out of Boston. The Red Sox dealt Manny Ramirez to the Dodgers as part of a three-team deal that also included the Pirates, according to numerous reports.

The Red Sox get Pirates outfielder Jason Bay and Pittsburgh receives four players, two each from the Dodgers and Sox.

The Red Sox were obviously desperate to rid themselves of the mercurial slugger. To make the deal, they also had to trade reliever Craig Hansen and outfielder Brandon Moss, who have both spent time on the Sox's big league roster. They also had to include $7 million toward Ramirez's salary.
Boston gave up a lot?
The relationship between Ramirez and the Red Sox became badly fractured in recent days. When the Yankees played at Fenway last Sunday, Ramirez said, "I'm tired of them. They're tired of me...enough is enough." And in a report on ESPNdepotes.com he was quoted as saying the Red Sox "don't deserve a player like me."

His departure separates him from David Ortiz, with whom he made one of the best 1-2 punches in baseball.

That was a great duo.

Ramirez was batting .299 with a team-high 20 homers and 68 RBI. Bay will become the Sox everyday left fielder. He was batting .282 with 22 home runs and 64 RBI.

Your right, the numbers are pretty close this year.

Ramirez is in the final guaranteed year of his contract, which includes $20 million options for 2009 and 2010. Bay is signed through next season at $7.5 million.
In addition to Moss and Hansen, the Pirates will get third baseman Andy LaRoche and righthander Bryan Morris from the Dodgers.

What the hell is going on in Pittsburg?
Are the having a fire sale?
