    The world's most overpaid athlete

OK, IMO it's got to be Shawn Kemp.

He made just over 10 million dollars last year!!!

For those of you that haven't seen this joke of a ballplayer in action lately, he put up a pathetic 6.1 points and 3.8 Rebounds a night this year.

If you know someone even worse, post him. I'm curious..

A-rod would be a great example too, I think $25 million a year for anyone is ridiculous. That's $150,000 a game or about $50,000 an hour.

Bryant Reeves used to be the most overpaid player in basketball...he was $10 million a year and wasn't even starting by the end of the season.

Shawn Kemp made that much? Damn, these players must like all the rules, regulation and contract stipulations (long term). Some of these guys have it made when they start washing up. How many stinkin' mins did Shawn play last year? Can he still dunk?

In my opinion, they are all getting overpaid. It just kills me to see people like mathematicians, scientists, teachers, etc. that do a lot for society getting paid less than a person that can dunk basketballs, etc.

I like the players on the football team who make 6 digit figures and don't see the playing field one iota!

Juwan Howard of the NBA. Dude is the highest paid NBA player next to Shaq and Kevin Garnett, he apparently made $18.75 million in 2001-02 and is going to make $20.625 in 2002-03.

Hard to say, but those Shawn Kemp and Juwan Howard figures are pretty rediculous.

Mike Hampton, pitcher for the Colorado Rockies, is making $9.5 million this year, in the 2nd year of an 8 year, $121 million contract. His record is 5-11, with an ERA just under 7.00.

IAB - yeah watch out i bet the METS who are still looking for pitching end up doing something dumb (surprise) and trading for a Mike Hampton or Danny Neagle (who has been sent to the bullpen).

I don't however agree with the statement of all pro baseball players are overpaid. Yeah the league minimum right now is $265,000 for a bench player and the average salary is just above $1.2 million. but if you take a step back and realize that these guys play every single day for nearly 9 months straight and compare is to football players who play once a week for 16 maybe 18 weeks (if they make the playoffs) and the comparison ends there.

My opinion I would go with someone like Drew Bledsoe of the Bills, getting over $100 million in the next 8 years! Crazy, that's about $275,000 per game!

Juwan Howard's negotiation when he almost accepted the trade to Miami Heat was the biggest joke!

Now boxing is an amazing salaried sport. Especially with Tyson who would finish off opponents within 5 minutes. Lots of money made in such a short time! I am referring to the one who loses in a matter of seconds!

Yeah man, Juwan was gonna be my second choice for sure!

Garnett's going to have to take a pay cut in the next couple years with new salary rules, so that'll leave Juwan as the 2nd highest paid player in the game! And for what? 1 All Star appearance 6 years ago?

Tyson is up there too.. the man's a washed up joke! He was pulling in 20 million dollars a fight, and couldn't box worth a dime!

I'd have to strongly disagree with the comments about all baseball players and Allen Iverson though.. with any profession, any time you're the best in the world at it you're going to be extremely well paid. I think people just see it differently with athletes because they're in our face so much more often..

I think the only reason why Juwan is so noted is because of Chris Webber. At least Chris tries to play hard! Juwan barely plays! Like Shawn Kemp!

Dude, if he plays 18 games per year it is actually $695,000 per game. You're right, that is insane. That's $11,500 a minute.

Tyson, boxing for ten rounds (as if) for $20 million makes $666,666 per minute. That's enough money for someone to retire on in a MINUTE! That pisses me off.

But the bottom line is, it's BASEBALL! What are these idiots doing to make the world a better place? I couldn't agree more with EarWax, our world is completely bassackwards. When people like teachers, fire fighters and police officers are second class citizens and professional athletes are whining because they deserve $25 million instead of $24 million there's a problem!

I didn't say he wasn't a good player! He's just a low life that doesn't deserve to be making that kind of money! To make that much you need to be an outstanding role model!!

Oops, my bad. I guess I need to clarify that I wasn't talking about just baseball players, I was talking about ALL professional athelets.

P.S. to dg806 and Corri: No athelete is good enough to warrant the kind of money A.I. is making, especially a dirtbag like him.

I totally agree, professional sports is highly overpaid and many many professions are brutally underpaid.

I find it annoying as well how these bastards make such a KILLING, especially with endorsements/shoe contracts etc etc etc, but yet when they "attempt" to give back to the community it's nothing short of pathetic. ie. Steve Nash of the NBA recently donated 10 grand to a park here in Victoria. WOW! STEVE! INTENSE BRUTHA! 10g's?? ...give me a break, they guy should have stepped up and paid for the whole damn thing and then some! (not really, but you get my drift)

If I made the kind of cash these guys made, the amount I'd give back would be out of this world. I guess I don't understand how someone who has SO MUCH can be counting his pennies...

whats funny though is that you have someone like bill gates (yeah I know non sports) who gives a lot back, but yet people want to do the gates bashing thing cause he's so "evil" (and windows is soooooooo bad, he's only in it for the money....like duh lol ) or ted turner who gave a billion to some U.N. fund...(I know its over a period of time but still) then you have some sports figures who will not even give some kid an autograph without charging for it.......I mean really..if they promoted some good will for their sport then maybe people wouldnt bitch about how much they make or the tickets cost

What's really sad is that athletes are making millions of dollars and our public school teachers who are molding our children don't get paid shit.

IMO, they bring the fans(money) they deserve the money! With that being said Shawn Kemp just does not bring the fans, on the other hand A-Rod does!
