Oh No Frederic Weis traded for Patrick Ewing

Patrick Ewing Jr. spent his formative years hanging around the Knicks so it is only fitting that his first job will be with the same club.
The Knicks acquired Patrick Ewing’s son from the Houston Rockets for the draft rights to French center Frederic Weis, who was the Knicks first round pick back in 1999. The 6-foot-8 Ewing Jr. was originally drafted in the second round by the Sacramento Kings only to be traded one month later to the Rockets in the Ron Artest deal.
Coincidentally, the Knicks drafted Weis one spot ahead of Artest nine years ago. The younger Ewing, who played at Georgetown after transferring from Indiana, is similar to the recently traded Renaldo Balkman; a long, athletic wing player who excels in a running game but needs to improve his outside shot.

I don't think so, you underestimate the intelligence of the NY fan.
We all know he's not a star, his father was a college star so we expected him to real good.

I don't expect much from him, just hope he has the same drive and desire as his father did.

If the Knicks received a half dozen towels for the rights to Weis, it would have been looked at as a steal. In NY, the French center is rarely spoken of without a variation of a four-letter word stated between his first and last names. When the Knicks drafted him, they passed on Ron Artest, who was a local star at St John's and is from Queens, NY.

Especially after Weis flopped in a few summer league appearances and came up with a few injuries, he has been Public Enemy #1. When the team selected Galinari in this year's draft, Weis' name came up again with comparisons of foreign players being picked by NY.

If Ewing Jr. even makes the roster it will be a coup. Either way, it can't hurt to see that familiar name on a team that is in desperate need for a change of identity.
