At 25, Pedroia sacrificed — actually, postponed — the chance for a free agent jackpot for an average annual salary of around $7 million and the chance to stay with the organization that picked him in the second round of the 2004 draft. He would be 32 when the contract expires, if the Red Sox pick up the option.
"I understood all that stuff. I understood that if I went year-to-year I probably would have made more money. But I'm in a place that I love," Pedroia said. "My first thought was, 'I play for the best team. Who wouldn't want to play for the Boston Red Sox? We're going to have a chance to win every year.' ... It fits." *** You are such a pimp, Dustin. |

Look at Pavano...there's more. Cano has pissed off his teammates for his lack of hustle this year. |

Pavano, Damon (excellent year last season aside), Cano (not saying he's done by any stretch of the imagination), Posada, $16 mil on Pettitte last year.. the list goes on and on though.. There have been some bad decisions made within that organization over the last five years.. I hope they trade hughes... |

Jays are going to be hurting. If anything with the recent decline in the Canadian Dollar 20 cent drop, thanks to slipping oil prices. The Jays will likely be looking to dump salary.

The Yankees aren't screwing around!
That's a big contract for a guy that's injury prone...not that I'd be upset if I were a Yankee fan. Iain won't be upset because the Jays just signed MATT CLEMENT to a minor league contract. GO JAYS!!!! |

Manny Ramirez mulls retirement
By Associated Press | Friday, December 12, 2008 | Home - BostonHerald.com | MLB Coverage Photo by AP Manny Ramirez is so upset by his lack of suitors on the free agent market that he’s told friends he would consider retirement if an offer doesn’t come soon, Newsday reported yesterday. Los Angeles Dodgers GM Ned Colletti is prepared to wait out Ramirez, meanwhile. The NL West champions made the free agent slugger a two-year, $45 million offer this fall but haven’t heard whether he will accept it. Colletti said he last spoke with Ramirez’ agent, Scott Boras, on Monday night. The 36-year-old Ramirez, who came to the Dodgers from the Red Sox [team stats] at the July 31 trade deadline, batted .396 with 17 home runs and 53 RBI in 53 games for Los Angeles. |

Nope I knew the Jays couldn't afford him. Slump in the Canadian Dollar, and an uncertainty in the ownership, will most likely mean more signings like Clement. Hopefully they work out.

Manny Ramirez is probably going to sign with the Yankees once Teixeira signs with the Sox.
Imagine an outfield of Ramirez-Damon-Nady with Matsui filling in from time to time (when not dh'ing). Easily one of the worst defensive outfields ever assembled, coupled with the worst defensive middle infield of Jeter and Cano.. Man oh man, Sabathia could have trouble next year. |
