I do think that sports and entertainment will be the first to begin declining if our economy stays in the toilet for several years. Who can afford to spend hundreds of dollars on tickets, food, and parking anymore? |

Death to Johnny Damon
"According to the New York Daily News, Johnny Damon and Alex Rodriguez placed multiple phone calls to A.J. Burnett, recruiting him to join the Yankees. "Johnny was calling him regularly, and he and Alex talked on numerous occasions," an anonymous baseball official told the Daily News. "Johnny talked to A.J. about New York, the differences between New York and Boston, how he views it. Johnny couldn't be happier here (in New York) and he communicated those thoughts to A.J."" |

Mark Teixeira tells ESPN that he is close to signing with a team, and that he expects his annual salary to be between $22 and 28 million per year. ^ this was taken from another board. Doesn't mean he's going to sign today, but he made comments at the Winter Meetings that he wanted his contract situation to be settled before Christmas and with this speculation today, I'd almost guarantee it happens before the weekend. $22 and $28 million is a pretty big difference. Perhaps Teixeira is considering a shorter deal so that he can be made available one more time in his prime maximizing his profits. Who truly knows at this point though.. Scott Boras is a scam artist in every sense of the term. It wouldn't shock me if Boras was the one creating this "news." |

I will tell you this Mino, even if they have to jack up ticket prices, atleast they try to put their money into their team. My cards havent shown they want to win in the free agency in forever! And their ticket prices are still some of the highest in the MLB!

Red Sox strike deals with Brad Penny, Jason Bard
Moving to improve their depth on the mound and behind the plate, the Red Sox [team stats] have agreements in place with right-hander Brad Penny and catcher Josh Bard, according to an industry source. Penny’s deal, which will be finalized tomorrow pending a physical exam and completion of contractual language, will pay the 30-year-old a base salary of $5 million. The deal has the potential to pay Penny $3 million more in bonuses, beginning with a 160-innings-pitched threshold and escalating from there. More........ |

Mets discussing trade for Dodgers' Andruw Jones
Andruw Jones could reportedly be on the move after a terrible first season with the Los Angeles Dodgers. ESPN.com is reporting that the Mets and Dodgers are discussing a trade that would send the former All-Star center fielder to New York. The report says the Dodgers would be willing to eat most of the two-year, $36.2 million contract the 31-year-old Jones signed before the 2008 season. Jones hit .158 last season with 76 strikeouts in 209 at-bats and was reportedly unhappy in Los Angeles. If he were shipped to the Mets, the 13-year veteran would likely move to right field with Carlos Beltran staying as New York's everyday center fielder. ![]() |

It's another contract year for Andruw Jones, and any time a Scott Boras client has free agency as motivation, they usually have some solid seasons.
I wouldn't be surprised if Jones came back and had a pretty productive year and if you're able to get him for nothing but a little cash, you'd have to consider it. |

Not a firesale; that's just Theo doing his job.
Hanley is going to be an expensive commodity come a couple of years from now. If that new stadium deal isn't reached, they might find it difficult to pay a guy like Hanley Ramirez $15 million per year. |
