Yes but its problematic, even my cable provider uses a proxied gateway, which means large groups of people under an entire ISP will show up as one IP.

I'm not familiar with that Mudge, but many ISP's provide dynamic IP's that they assign. The client then establishes a lease with the IP address for a period of time, then when the lease expires, they are issued a completely different IP. That would make it difficult to ban on IP. You can do it, but it would just be temporary and they would be back. Either that or they use different names, and sign on from different locations.

Duh, almost every ISP uses a lease man

IPCONFIG /RENEW

Still, I was supprised that my cable ISP used a proxied gateway, but they do as I found out on this forum actually because it firstly did not match my actual IP.

I have RCN, 3 down 1 up baby. I have seen 93kB/s upstream as my maximum. Downstream max I think was 647kB/s for an extended period, I have a screenshot somewhere.

If your only getting 647 KB/s that is only a little over 1/2 of a Mbps. I'm getting better than that now. I get on an average 1.5 Mbps downstream. But if you can get 3 down then that is awsome. The question is how much your paying? I have had comcast formerly ATT for roughly 3-4 years. I'm paying 45 bucks a month even. Now if they enhance their service to 3 Mbps and not up the charge that would be awsome. But I don't think things can get that good. There is always a catch .

So you say 129.00, but your including your TV and everything. What would you guess just the internet portion would be? That would be the deciding factor. Again I pay 45.. for 1.5Mb down...that isn't to bad. My provider rarely ever has a problem and I'm alwasy running.

I wanted RCN primarily for upstream, 128kbit was sucking wind. I dont know how much inet only would be, check the website I suppose, I seriously doubt it could match your $45 though - even here Comcast charges more than that, I believe its $56 or so once you add on the taxes and such, $5 for an additional IP puts my brother around $60 something monthly.

Well I will sit back and hope that comcast comes through with the 3mb connection in January like I heard. Why do you need more than one IP? Are you hosting a web or mailserver? I run a small network here with a stand-alone server. I just connect the other clients to my hub or router and I get a dynamic IP through dhcp.
When I run my webserver though, I will need to map the DNS to a static IP though.

My brother, not me. I have a single IP. Comcast and RCN both have rules stating you are not allowed to run a server on thier connection, which DSL does not really limit you too (Earthlink has a 1.5GB total transfer rate monthly however before they cap you at 64kbit).

This technically means no game servers either, and certainly no DNS mapping.

Oh, Guess I misunderstood... Thought maybe you were roomies with your BRo.... But the pricing sounds somewhat competitive.

Earthlink stinks... No game server.. That would never work for me. Have to have my game server. I run a Delta Force Land Warrior Server... And no DNS mapping ??? What up with that. That is BS.

Not Earthlink man, Earthlink has the 1.5GB transfer limit and I have done single days where I'd hit that easily.

Cable providers will NOT allow you to run services, damons, and the like - read your agreement, it is for HOME USE. So what I'm saying is you are not going to run amazon.com on your cable connection.

I was using www.homeip.net and I always had my FTP on a high numbered port, 2626 or whatever.

Do you play Raven Shield at all?
