.bmp to .jpg

BODYBUILDING SUPPLEMENTS
High Quality Supplements For Bodybuilders and Athletes. www.ironmaglabs.com
Does anyone know how to change a photo file from a .bmp to a .jpg or other acceptable format? I have been having problems.... usually the file is too large, and I need to reduce it. But when I reduce it, its automatically saved as a bitmap. And just changing the file extension doesnt work.

Any ideas?

I believe you can use Microsoft Photo Editor if you're using windows. Open the .bmp and then save as .jpg.

just kick'in it in the ole Charger

DU,

Just go to paintbrush....You can do it there.
- start
- programs
- accessories
- paint

Then open picture and click "save as". You can select between various formats. GIF and JPG are both there. You get more compression from JPG... PNG is superior to all, but uses much more space... In any case Paint will do what you want. I don't have XP, but assume it has paint. I use windows 2000 pro myself. If paint doesn't do it then go to www.cnet.com and search software for keyword "graphic converter" or just "converter" you will find shitloads of graphic file format converter software.
My favorite is ACDsee... I use that as a graphic viewer, basic editor, and converter.

wait just pull it up in your browser, right click on the image and in the "save as" menu pick file type jpg. It's all built into the internet browser.

I use the current Microsoft Explorer Browser OD and it doesn't give you the option of saving as JPG. What are you using?

Besides, he has already done it with my recommendation of using Paintbrush.

under XP IE 6.0.2800.1106.xpsp2...
Right click any image in the browser and get a menu. Select the "save picture as" choice. In the next option select file type .jpg

OD

Thats my windows. I just tried to save a random pic, and it only let me as bitmap. So, it might depend on the pic.

No DU, it depends on the Utility that you're using, not the picture. Not all are primitive enough to allow you to save into all the popular formats. That is why I referred you to paint since I know it would do what you asked for.

My avatar? I just tried it. Under "save target as", I was shown the options for html page and all files. Under "save picture as", I was only shown bitmap.

I have the latest version 6 explorer as well and it only provides you the option to save as gif or bmp. Now maybe you installed an explorer plug in OD that allows for additional formats... But why screw with a browser when you can use a graphics utility program that provides you with far more options for manipulating graphics.. That is what they are intended for. I understand if that is all one wanted, and your browser could accomodate that function, it would be great. But I already verified it can't be done under its stock form.

OD,

Believe us

I think this might be where you are confused. If you right click an image in explorer that is already in jpg format, then it will show that as a viable option. But if the image is not, you will not see that as a standard format available.
