Exclamation vBulletin

You guys seriously need to upgrade this forum to vBulletin 2.1. It's 1000x better than UBB.

If you don't have it, contact me fred@truthugs.com and I can get you it. I own a couple licenses.

Well, I would not say VB is 1000% times better, but it does have more features.

I don't think I will switch to VB because I don't want to go to a MySQL database. I will be upgrading to UBB 6.x in the near future, which is a lot better than 5.47, the version we are currently running on.

Don't bother. Go straight to vBulletin. mySQL loads 30% faster than this, and the search feature is way faster since it's dynamic.

No flat files. Meaning your space would go down dramatically. And example is this, my board has 80,000 posts and 1100 members. This is only 80 mb for me.

Come on Prince. All big forums know that vBulletin is the best. Why do you think UBB is dying in the market now? Because no one uses it. vBulletin is far more superior.

I can hook you up with the damn script and make the forum for you. I'm expert at PHP and mySQL. I'll make this forum the nicest one out there. Kill your competition.

Leave Prince alone.

Aside from my smily, I'm serious. He's got the shit kickin, and knows what's up. There are no bugs with the software, and the forum runs squeaky clean.

Prince is a smart guy. He wouldn't screw his site over because he's got some love for an inferior product. Just chill dude. All is well.

Thumbs up

I don't know what all this technical talk means, but I am just glad to be able to access all the fitness and nutrition info this board has to offer for FREE!

Good job, Prince!

We're talking about a different board/software. It uses a different type of database than this one, and has more features.
Personally, I think this board has enough features already, but I do plan on upgrading in the near future to UBB 6.x, not Vbulletin (the one he's talking about).

Thanks Pianomahnn!

Yes, I agree UBB runs very solid, and there are no problems with it. I think everyone that uses this board will agree that there are never any problems.

As far as speed, a flat database is quicker for a small site, except for searches. But honestly, how often do people use the search function anyway?

As far as upgrading to VB, I've thought about it. But my current host charges way too much for MySQL, and I am prepaid with them until December.

Also, I can upgrade to UBB 6.x for free, and I would not need to change web hosts, or pay any additional fees. And I am very happy with my current web host, they have excellent prices, support, and minimal downtime.

Thats only because of the bandwidth it used. For a website with over 1,000,000 posts - you would go back to a flat file since it's a bit easier on banwdith.. but under 1,000,000 you would go with vbulletin.

thats why ubb made the script open topic.. for sites with over 1 million posts.

UBB 6 sucks. It's version is worse than 5.45c. Thats real sad. They removed a lot of features that were in the old version, and now it blows.

Prince, actually I "Tried" using the search feature here. But gave up since it took so long to load. I Wanted to learn about deadlifts and stuff.

btw - UBB 6's templates are real bad. Nothing is dynamic, so it's real hard to make the changes. IT would take the average person with a premade template about 10 min's to set it up in vBulletin or less. But in UBB it would take hours.. haha.. you would have to go through the cgi files itself for a lot of parts.

VBulletin has 200 templates now. But you only need to really edit ths sytles template (design of the forum). And if you need text and features changed on the layout, then you go through about 4 templates.

The other templates for for basic re-wording stuff.. haha

For example's of vBulletin's I've designed:

The VB vs. UBB argument/discussion can, and does go on and on and on...

When all is said and done it just comes down to personal preference.

Like I said in a previous post, a huge site: http://ubb.counter-strike.net/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi switched from VB to UBB. And there are many sites that have switched from UBB to VB. So what?

Personally, I like the way UBB works, and it has been very stable. Also, I don't want to switch to a MySQL database. When you run UBB on a Windows 2K server, it's very fast! Typically faster than VB, except for searches. People rip on UBB's flat database, but it works very well, and it's very easy to manage.

And if you really think about it, what is a message board supposed to do? It let's members post and reply messages, that is it's main function. If it can accomplish this well, then that is really all that matters.

That's my $.02 !

I think you should stick with UBB for real Prince stick to you saying you have at the bottom lol. I think this page could be nice with a few programs like weight calc, cal calc, etc. I could be the man to make these.

Fred, I hate being a prick to people, and I mean no disrespect but you need to shut the F U C K up. As far as I am concerned this is a fine site. It has nice members, and a very friendly environment. Huge sites tend to be less personal, and more political with a bunch of crap no one really needs. Its best to keep things as they are.

And seriously, what else does one really need in a forum? You can post text messages, and place stupid freaking smilies in them. Along with the smilies, you can use html to spruce of your posts if you would like.

Just give it a rest man. You're being lame.

I hang out at a board (heavyweights.net) that has a real shitty forum in terms of the technical side of things. I mean, you can't even post smily's (my fav) or links, etc. It's a very basic type of forum. But I stay there cause of the people/content, not because of how technically advanced the site is. If this works for everyone, cool People aren't gonna leave because it's not the latest version of whatever the hell your talking about

If you want my 2 cents worth I have been a member on other sites and some larger forums and none that were as good as this one. Keep up the good work Prince! Fred, I know you are only trying to help and you wouldn't do that if you didn't like this board, but you have gave your advice and now it is time to respect Princes decision.
