What sups should I consider taking?

I am taking creatine and Hydroxicut but wonder if I should take more? What about L-Glutamine? what will it or other sups do to help me get bigger and stronger with few side effects?

Glutamine's will help your muscles recover from intense sessions. Take that as well as some flax oil. Take some additinal protein powders as well.

If you're trying to add size I would consider dropping the Hydroxycut unless you are only taking it for added energy for you stregth training sessions. Additionally I think there are many better products on the market than Hydroxycut anyway (i.e. Ripped Fuel by Twinlab).

As far as additional supplement I would consider the following..as to what you take will largely depend on how much money you ultimately want to spend):

    1) Glutamine - about 10 grams per day to help recovery
    2) Creatine - 5-10 grams per day depending on BW to help with strength
    3) Protein, protein, protein - make sure youu are meeting your daily protein requirements...it doesn't have to be from protein supplements but using a supplement here sure makes meeting the requirements easier
4)Multivitamin - just to make sure you aren't missing anything from your diet
    5) MRP - (meal replacement packs) these are great for after you workout or times when you don't have enough time to cook a meal
    6) Flax Oil - great source of EFAs...try adding it to your MRPs

In my opinion anything over and above these recommendations are not needed and are likely to more of marketing gimmicks than anything.

ps - you may also want to consider adding some Vitamin C, E, and calcium depending on your diet deficienceies

It was a bit higher than that

Most people take at least 1 g of protein per lb of LBM...some go 1.5 - 2. I can't remember your weight exactly, but I know you're not getting enough protein as it is...I'd suggest you up it to 1 G per lb of LBM

Buster...as far as your protein requirements we have to know your BW and LBM to make the propper recommendationsbut as a general rule you need a minmum of 1g per lb of LBM. Depending on your goals and your diet this can change. For example if you are cutting for a competition and your carbs are very low you'd likely increase the protein to 1.5 to 2 grams per lb of LBM.

I'll assume that you're looking to add mass with minimal bodyfat since that is the typical goal for most people. Based on this ensure you're eating adequate calories and if so I would go with 1 to 1.5 grams of protein per lb of LBM each and every day....no exceptions. When doing this also make sure you're eating your meals...and protein over 5-7 smaller meals throughout the day.

As far as the niacin I've only taken it right before a show........who told you to take this?...anyone else take it?....just curious since I'd like to know the science behind it!

Cheers and good luck...any other questions...feel free to shout!

How do I find out what my LBM is? I haven't heard of that one yet. I was told by a Dr that the Niacin will help lower Cholesterol.1,000 mg per day I took the reg Niacin and the flushing was too much so now I take the slow realease type it's much easier to take. No Flush! It is supposed to Open the blood vesels. That just seems to make since to take it when doing BB!
I have no idea which is why I asked the ?

Here are my stats as I know them and remember I am new with BB so bare with me OK?
46 years old, 5'11" 240pounds 40 inch waste 46 inch chest 44 inch hips, 17 inch solid arms, 17.5 neck, 26 inch thighs.
I know my BMI is 33, and my estimated body fat percebtage is 20%
Let me know if you need any thing else you need and thanks
    oh and brown eyes... hehe

LBM is simply...in general terms...your total bodyweight less any bodyfat.

For you that basically means 240- (240*.2) = 192 lbs therefore you should be consuming anywhere from about 200 to 400 grams of protein per day...keeping in mind what I said in my earlier approach.

Thanks for the information. Everyone here is so helpful I just wish I started this 15 years ago!
Dr P I got the regular Niacin this evening so I stop taking the slow release today. Thanks
W8 I am doing better with the diet but having a hard time getting the protien up without going over the Carbs (75 g per day)
Fit,do they make a capsul sup protien? I looked at GNC tonight but they didn't know of any.
Also where can I fine the meal replacement Packs? GNC knew nothing about these either.

How's that? Most protein doesn't have carbs in it!

Listen to this! Niacin can cause nerve damage (and death) if taken improperly. I don't know where this new niacin fad came from because I have read about it on other boards but it really bothers me because people don't know the harm that it can do at high doses.
Today I can do what others will not so that tomorrow I will do what others cannot.

Amino acids yes, protein? No, you'd be taking about 40 horsepills to get protein in capsule form.
