    Kids using creatine

My son is 16, 6'2" and 157. Basically no body fat. Anyway, I've heard mixed opinions on if it's safe for a kid to add creatine to his protein supplements? What are the risks?

The only known risk is dehydration. This is easily prevented with proactive water consumption. Proactive meaning he drinks extra water well before he starts the activity that will lead to heavy sweating. Tell him do down an extra quart of water one hour before exercise and drink enough so that his urine remains clear.

I personally used creatine when i was your sons age. I used it during the football season and the off season when i was lifting. I had no negative side affects.

He should not just drink a lot more but also avoid dehydrating drinks like coffee and alcohol (although i don't think that this is an issue)

Personally, I think that's a little young. Age aside, I would think it more important to educate him in all areas of diet/nutrition and proper training first. At his age, he shouldn't need creatine.....it ain't all that, and this encourages a dependency on suppliments and instant results....not realistic.

At 6'-2" and 157 he needs to be EATING, not supplimenting with creatine.

Tell him to be careful, creatine is very very potent.

Pretty soon he'll be abusing beta alanine. You'll find tubs of it hidden all over his bedroom.

    Totally agree
Creatine is really not dangerous at all but why rely on sups when hes at his best age for natural growth potential? Its just not needed

    Ha...

Thanks for the input. I've researched it. As long as he keeps dosages down to recommended and stays hydrated, it's g2g.
