As most people already know, I earn my entire living from the fitness industry – through a combination of designing nutritional supplements, writing, and working as a coach or instructor. Recently a colleague in the supplement design industry asked me what I thought was next for Species Nutrition.
My answer: Nothing.
I can’t imagine that Dave Palumbo is going to reformulate Somalyze or Lipolyze, once they’ve been on the losing end of a multi-million dollar lawsuit (which I believe will be filed before the middle of next week). And as I recall, when Testolyze was pulled off the market, he didn’t replace it with another testosterone booster in his product line. The name had become so tarnished with the 6-OXO crackdown by the feds, there would have been little reason to reformulate the product under the same name. Interestingly, he never put out another test booster anyway, even under a different name.
Species Nutrition is probably worth somewhere in the neighborhood of $300k, their insurance covers $1m, and the company will certainly not survive the lawsuit intact. More likely than not, because the company and the owner have very little separation (the owner promotes it as “his” company, relying on “his” expertise as a formulator, puts his own picture on the website, etc…), it seems highly probable that Dave Palumbo will be named individually in the forthcoming lawsuit. So what’s next for Species Nutrition? Probably nothing.
