    Glutamine Questions ??

First question I have is there a difference between Glutamine & L-Glutamine? If so, which one is preferred, how much e/d, & is it something I should take on rest days?

I don't know a whole lot about it & I'm trying to figure out if it's essential to my workout?

There is no need for healthy individuals to supplement glutamine.

6 years ago, I've taken glutamine religiously for nearly a year straight when I heard some guys raving about it in the gym. I can honestly tell you, it did squat for me, nothing.

That's kind of what triggered it for me also. Come to find out my protien powder has a small amount of Glutamine in it & I can say that I don't notice any benefit from it (advanced healing, extra energy, etc.) whatsoever. And I've used the same protien complex for over a year now.

The only time Glutamine helped me is when I was doing the HIT (High Intensity Training) program. I was lifting extremely heavy, full body routine, and I was getting sick pretty quickly and in pain which indicated my muscle damage was pretty severe. With glutamine, I did notice a major improvement in recovery. Since I usually change my routines and switch from super heavy lefts to medium lefts. When I left heavy I supplement with Glutamine and BCAA to avoid getting sick and recover quicker.

I agree though, for most people, they might not need Glutamine at all. It is not something that will give you energy or build pumps or show immediate results, rather it will help preserver your muscle, boost your immune system and recovery.

I'd have to agree with this completely.

Like said above, if you are healthy and get adequate amounts of sufficient types of protein, you will have plenty of glutamine.

Yea.. You don't need L-Glutamine.. It's only the most abundant amino found in all of our body's and your levels get dramatically used up when you exercise. It plays the roles of boosting your immune system and cleaning lactic acid off your muscles, but na you don't need it.. I mean what kind of uneducated losers comment here...

Of course you need it, of course it works.. Ohhh you guys need the Beta Alanine tingle to know something is working... Get over your muscles and read a book!

I was actually under the impression it helped with protein synthesis, which would help the protein you were taking in to process in your body. Whoops! lol.

Thanks for all the feeback, it looks like I have it covered either way as my Protien Complex that I'm using daily, contains a fair amount of Glutamine.

I tried a cheaper brand years ago and did not really notice much then a few months ago i got another tub that came from Japan and noticed a big difference.

I have recently dropped Whey, as an experiment, and using 5-10g of Glutamine instead about 20-30 minutes after exercise and have a complete meal an hour or so later.

This has worked much better as i've lost fat off my sides which is my problem area and my muscles are staying fuller longer. I think i read somewhere it also decreases carb cravings which is nice at night when i crave them the most
