I'll refrain from posting my actual opinion of glutamine.

But if you have money to burn, go ahead and buy it.

I'd love to, but i could be here for quite some time, and i'd probably be regurgitating a lot of stuff i've already posted on it in other threads.

basically, in a nutshell, i think it's a waste of money.

    Seriously not worth the price.

Possibly, yes. During the latter stages of pre-contest cut when you're tinkering well below your setpoint and muscle loss becomes more prominant.

Although this thread belongs in the supplement forum I'll leave it here and say that TCD is dead wrong about this. I know he will argue as he has ad nauseum many times before, and just maybe it doesn't work for HIM, but I can tell you that glutamine is one of the very best supps out there and should be used religiously, and in large quantities.

I have seen and recorded the growth, recovery, and health benefits in myself and others dozens of times!

    Use it!

Nick is a 17-18 year old student.

Should he waste money on such a product, when chances are that money is already tight.

    My answer: no.

Providing your diet is good, save the money and use it to pay for a social life on the weekends. You are a student afterall and you're young, so take the opportunity while you can, before full time employment rids you of your spare time and gives you only the weekend to look forward to (depending on the employment of course).

TCD, that was not the question. He was asking whether glutamine is a worthwhile supplement, not for a lesson in life. Perhaps he would rather spend his money on the pursuit of bettering his body than on beer, drugs, or other wasteful things. Should he have a social life and do "fun" things with his money...sure, but that is up to him, not us!

I add around 5 grams to my protein drink every morning, that's it.

    It is very expensive.

I also use glutamine with my protein drink, between 5-10 grams a day. As for the pros and cons, I'd say the pro is increased recovery and con would be the cost.

Its deffinately the most sought after amino out there. Thats got to mean something. Well maybe not, in the states we tend to be kind of sheepish when it comes to quick fixes. Follow the herd!!!

BTW don't forget your protein sups usually carry up to 3 grams of it!

Well, while I believe that the simple addition of 5 g per day will provide benefits, I have found larger doses to supply even greater benefits. I usually find that people do best on about 25 g per day with doses in the morning, pre wo, post wo, and before bed.

I myself will go as high as 50 g per day and feel it is worth the price as a natural BBer.

I haven't tried it yet, but I've seen reputable people besides GP that suggest it in large doses. To bad Myostatin didn't seem to work out?

Sorry for posting on the wrong board. :[

Thanks for all the information all. I have enough money to spend on supps. Right now, getting in shape is my top priority.

Are there any cons [beside cost] or health risk to glutamine? I shy away from it still because i dont want to have any problems down the road (as can be the problem with othe sups, eg, thermos slowing down the thyroid and having to be on thyroid boosters for the rest of your life)

Just to add weight to Go Pros comment, I've used 35 plus grams a day while on a cut and it helped me recover considerablly on my workouts.
Regardless of what science may claim I can't ignore the real life results. However I don't believe it's needed for bulking but then again, I've never used that much while bulking so I can't really comment.

    Cheers.

GP, not sure, I have heard Myostatin doesn't seem to work for alot of people, maybe doseage or diet I don't know. I do remember your 5(?) pound increase though, I don't know much about the gene or the products behind it, but Glutamine seems like everyone reputable loves it.

Glutamine will indirectly help fat loss. Glutamine is not a fat burner per se, but can help you keep muscle while burning fat. This in turn will keep your metabolism high. Also, glutamine will keep your immune response high, help with recovery, and keep your muscles "volumized," all of which are compromised when trying to lose fat.

There are no long term health risks associated with glutamine and no side effects. It is a naturally occurring amino acid and will do nothing negative to your hormonal balance like a prohormone can.

Take it with a clear conscious.
