How much can stress affect your cortisol levels?
Stress = bad, mmmkay?
How much can stress affect your cortisol levels? I have been under tons of stress lately and last night the wife started talking about the Big "D" so I am under even more stress now.
I have been taking Tribex but these last couple of days I have been really tired.
Has anyone else had this or is the Tribex not working?
Thanks.

ditto....
various types of stress (environmental, work related etc.) can also cause test levels to drop severely
I train differently than most, my beef is with gravity the weights on the bar are just the medium...Thanks to Wall Street your slice of the American Pie has been reduced to a crumb.
And make you go green.

Secondly, I take Tribex and love that stuff, especially for sexual performance reasons!![]()
Too much cortisol is bad news for anyone trying to add muscle and keep bodyfat under control. You may wish to look into the following natural supplements to help lower cortisol levels...
-phosphatidylserine
-ALC
-valerian root
-flax oil

Thanks for replying everyone.
does l-glutamine help in the reduction of cortisol levels ?

Not itself no, but under conditions of extreme stress, supplementing with glutamine will mean the body doesn't need to catabolise muscle tissue (or any other tissues really, but muscle goes first cause it's the most expendable) to obtain the glutamine.
Extreme stress = burns patients and marathon runners. There's no studies showing benefit for weightlifters except for the immune system side of things, but most BBers and athletes are hot on the idea.
Quite frankly, i couldn't give a shit.

I do like vit C for this, yes. I did not mention it b/c I knew you'd begin to annoy the crap outta me for studies on it...am I right?Originally posted by The_Chicken_Daddy

No, actually. I'm past caring at this stage.
But i was hoping, however, that you'd explain the mechanism by which it works. Cause i've still found little myself.
Don't get me wrong, I'm no doubting it - I am genuinely interested in learning here.

I don't know that the exact mechanism has been discovered as of yet TCD. There are studies that show that cortisol can be blunted up to 30% by taking as little as 200 mg of Vit C before intense exericise. There is a definite effect on the adrenals and their hormonal output. I am actually going to look for a study or two to give you a better answer.

Well you don't necessarily have to show me studies. Just maybe a link to somewhere that maybe explains it (providing it's not some guy who just made it up lol).
