Well, you may need to start warming up better before you play. A glucosomine/chondroitin/MSM supplement can help with chronic joint problems, but it will not take effect for several weeks.

Do you have chronic knee problems?

No, this is the first time I feel any pain on my knees.
And I am only 24, it shouldn't be happening.
You are right, I new I should have warmed up before, but the day was so hot, 100 Fr, that I was already feeling okay to play.

It could be muscle related. I use to have knee pains from Basketball because I'd play so much, and neglect to do exercises for my knees. Maybe do some specific rehab exercises to help firm up specific muscles to help with knee strength?

There is a powerlifter who tore both ACL and hamstrings by trying to do a sprint session with no warmup, oops.

Actually sounds like you compromised the ligaments. I would get evaluated by a good sports oriented Physical Therapist. Many gyms have one or a clinic. Most will evaluate the injury for free. Avoid Orthopedic Doctors (many want to cut to soon), until you know what is going on.

it occurs all day long, even when I am just sitting.

I did something similar skiing one year, I had to wear knee supports for a week. I never went to a doc, but I believe I just strained the ligaments, they eventually healed after around 8 weeks.

Ice is always important for the first 2 days...than a switch to heat is best. You can also use OTC anti-inflammitories as there is probably swelling.

You must warm up even in hot weather. The tendons, ligaments and muscles must become exposed slowly to the demands that are about to be made on them.

Give this injury a couple of weeks to heal...if it does not, time for the doc!

fgarcez, here's a great way to heal up quick ( I play soccer too ). Go to the store and buy some dixie cups. When you get home fill 5-10 of them with water and freeze them. Take one of them out and rip the bottom off. Massage the ice allover the entire muscle, not just the injured spot. Do this 5-10 times per day.

On the second day take rags and get'em nice and wet! Now ring the water out and pop'em into the microwave until they're nice and toasty! Let the rag sit on the muscle for 10-20 minutes 5-10 times per day.

On the third day either ice again and do heat on the fourth day OR buy some BenGay or something like it and massage the muscle a few times per day. Really dig deep into the muscle's fascia!
