    Protein Prices Going UP!

    Protein Prices Going UP!
    By Mark Gilbert

Anyone notice that protein prices have gone up? Yes, between the tax increase, the cost of gas to move goods around and the huge growth in worldwide demand for high-quality protein …it’s a triple whammy! Well, you can put the blame squarely at the doorstep Chinese economic growth – their rapidly-growing middle class can now afford formula for their babies and toddlers and guess what protein gets used in baby formula? If you said whey protein, go to the front of the class! Also, Gatorade has started adding whey protein to their workout drinks and word is that they’ve pre-purchased a HUGE whack of the stuff! Hope on the Horizon? Fortunately Volac, one of the world’s biggest protein manufacturers, is in the process of doubling their capacity. However, it will take a lot more than that to supply the increased demand that is in the pipeline! Fortunately, if you’re clever, you can buy the big bags of whey and save some cash! Let’s face it folks, buying whey protein is peanuts if you compare that price to what 20+ grams of protein from chicken breast would cost – and gram-for-gram, it’s better protein.

I thought that they had gone up. I took some time off from lifting and when I went back to the "Vitamin Shop" I had found that the protein I usually get was like $5 more for the 1 gallon bucket thingy.

Is it cheaper to buy protein online or in stores such as the vitamin shop? I know that GNC is definitely out of the picture because their prices suck...but would love to know any cheaper places than the vitamin shop.

The price has been going up for awhile now. I used to get 5 lb. jugs of ON for less than $20.00.

Online is the place to go. Brick and mortar stores cannot compete with online supplement stores. Ive been shopping online for my supplements for a decade.
