6 a day isn't too much or too little. It's a moderate amount

I know there are different dosages recommended for different purposes. Fish Oil is suppose to be good for the heart, joints, natural anti-inflammatory purposes, brain function, natural anti-depressants. They recommend a dosage much higher for anti inflammatory purposes as oppose to taking it for preventative purposes. There are many good articles on it on the net that I found. Also, it is important to buy fish oil with the right EPA to DHA ratio. They say it is the EPA responsible for certain things as oppose to DHA content - again read up on it on the net, lots of articles available. I found taking 1600mg daily made a difference for me while less did not.

The one that I take is the generic brand from BJ's Wholesale Club.

2 pills have 2,400 grams of fish oil concentrate. EPS/DHA is 720 grams per 2 pills.

I usually take four in the morning. I think the bottle says to take two, but I take four anyway. I used to take two with every meal.

the omega 3 fish oil pills i brought said 1x 1000mg pill per day which i did for 90 days,my knee joints felt slightly better but not great but i did get the side effect of greasy hair and skin which almost out weighed how they helped my knee's.
perhaps mine were under or over dosed as they were budget ones fron a heath food store?

Im transitioning from a ton of fish oil to krill oil and just a few caps of fish oil with it. Going to see how it treats me. Krill oil is supposed to be way more effective. Had a problem of not clotting too well when I was megadosing the fish oil.

The six pills you're taking are about right. You want to shoot for about 2 grams of EPA + DHA per day. You should take the pills with a meal if possible, since if you take them alone your pancreas and gall bladder might not get the signal to release the lipase and bile needed for your body to absorb the oil.

Also, watch your overall ratio of omega 6 to omega 3 intake. Most Americans generally get WAY too much omega 6 in their diet. Since the metabolic path for using the omegas is the same, and is limited to how much can be processed, an excess of omega 6 will 'drown out' the omega 3s (they 'compete'). So, if you want the 2 grams of EPA/DHA in your 7.2 grams of fish oil to be effective, keep your omega 6 intake as low as possible. Ideally you want only two to three times as much omega 6 as omega 3, however most Americans are at a 10:1 to 20:1 ratio (mostly because they get very little omega 3s).

And one other note to another poster: Omega 3s are _not_ anti-inflammatory. It's just that omega 6s are _much_ more inflammatory, so by lowering omega 6 and increasing omega 3 so that more omega 3 is used for prostaglandin production, less inflammatory prostaglandins are produced. But it's easier to say the omega 3s are anti-inflammatory because they do _reduce_ inflammation, but only because they cause less than omega 6s.

Some bottles recommend one a day and some say 3, eventhough they both carry 1000 mg per pill. I just started taking it so I'm taking it twice a day. My wrist, which has been bothering me for a few months now is finally starting to get better. It maybe coincidence that Its gettering better because of Fish Oil (and Vitamin D) but I'd like to think it has a lot to do with it.
