    new to protein

    Hi everyone!
I'm new at this program and I'm interested in a protein supplement.
I have been reading about different brands,(many brands) are there any advantages to different brands? and should you stay away from any certain types? Do you know anything about Ny-Tro pro40? Any help picking a supplement would be great!
Also are they the same for male and female?

    Thanks,cassidy

Go for a good quality cost effective basic whey product...personally....as well as many others around here....use/recommend Optimum Whey. Cheap and a good product.
    Searching for the right balance...

I agree with what FF said.

there is no difference to proteins for men and women, both eat the same chicken and beef right.

I like champion nutrition's whey. Chocolate. Optimum is good too.

thre are different types of whey protein, they're not all "equal":

Whey Protein Concentrate - Whey protein concentrate varies between 25-89 percent protein. It can contain a certain amount of both fat and lactose. Be sure to check with the manufacturer on the quality of this type of protein.

Whey Protein Isolate - As the purist form of whey protein, whey protein isolate is almost 90 – 95 percent pure protein. Both milk fat and lactose are kept to a minimum as well.

Hydrolyzed Whey Protein - The process of hydrolysis breaks the protein chains down into smaller segments called peptides. Hydrolyzed whey protein is more easily digested and has a reduced potential for allergic reactions versus non-hydrolyzed whey protein.

I have recently discovered the cheapest and best (I hope) source for all my protein needs.

Check out proteincustomizer.com. His prices are much better than buying Optimum retail (what I used to do). If you get overwhelmed at the blending options just go for a straight protein, or email the owner.

    Thanks for the info.
What is casein protein? Do you still recommend whey?

Everyone agrees whey is best post w/o (because it absorbs quickly).

Most people say that is the only appropriate time for whey (because it absorbs quickly).

This is blow out of proportion. The only time whey is (possibly) not ideal is before bed, or a long fast. In which case casien or a casien blend is (probably) better.
