    Protein Powder

Ok, I took a look in the local vitamin and such store and found a PP I belive is what I want.

    Its stats per scoop are:
    17g Protein
    1g Fat
    2g Carbs

I assume I will be needing 2-2.5 scoops per shake correct?

The nutritional breakdown looks good...as for how much to take it depends on your bodyweight but as a general rule I would say about 2 scoops...that should give you about 35 grams of protein.

Bri...I just saw your pic from the other thread...based on that I would definately say 2 scoops! Any more I think would be a waste. As your bodyweight and lean mass increase you may want to go as high as almost 3 scoops.

I just wanted to know your basic stats to get an idea of how much protein per day you will need. Since you weigh about 165 you will want to ingest AT LEAST 165 g of protein daily. Since its best to spread this out over 5-6 meals you will be looking to consume 30-35 g of protein at each meal. Therefore, when using your protein powder, you can use 2 scoops at a time to get in the proper range for a meal.

Personally from my experience I have no problems with aspartame...I suggest just consuming it in moderation unless you get adverse sides from it...then I would avoid it...I actually consume quite a bit of it and haven't had any problems.

Everyone is different...I guess I'm just on the other side of the fence....there has been enormous amounts of testing on it and it's proven over and over to be safe.....JMO!

Aspartame is essentially formaldehyde inside the body, it was never created with the intent of ingestion, it was a chemcial accident.

You can read about all the problems it causes for people
    http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&i...-8&q=aspartame

I'm sure you could drink a little rat poison and be ok too, that doesn't mean it should be ingested.

Must interject on aspartame. Do you know how many "harmful" toxins we ingest, breath in, etc every day? I use tons of it while getting ready for shows and so does almost every competitor I know or work with personally. None of us has any problem getting shredded...in fact, I think the stuff actually helps in an indirect way...BY KEEPING YOU SANE WHILE DIETING.

Unless you ingest bucketloads of it you will be fine. Eat your veggies, drink your water, stay away from drugs and alot of alcohol, pick the right parents, and watch both ways before you cross and you'll live a long happy life...even while consuming aspartame.

I can agree, with all the poisin we take in we do live longer than we used to. I was limiting myself to one diet soda a day in the past though, I dont like the idea of pushing it with some things.

During the offseason I may have 2-3 diet cokes per day, but in a cutting phase I drink Crystal Light all day..and some diet coke. The sweetness of those drinks really control my cravings for sweets and junk. I could not survive my diet without them. God Bless aspartame!

I dont know anything about slowing down the metabolism, but it does cause a small insulin spike, anything sweet does even if its not real sugar.

if it has no effects now, but later on it will... I'm just saying it would be better to avoid it if you can... I mean I chew gum that contains aspartame, I used to chew like 5-6 pieces a day.. now I went down to 3 or less

Actually, it was created for ingestion by a company called Ajinomoto unless I`m mistaken. The scientist who invented it was suing the company for never paying him for the patent and billions of $$ they have made from it.

I remember the article, and I remember the lawsuit. I believe he got 10 million in royalties (I assume USD conversion) but felt he was not compensated enough. Monsanto is the name that comes to my mind, and it was not created for human consumption it was an accident according to the article I read. It also claimed that the scientist accidentally licked his hand (dont ask me how), and thusly discovered its taste.

Yeah man...come on. We need to drink like 2 gallons of water per day when dieting for a show. I couldn't think of getting in that much fluid if it wasn't sweetened a bit. Plus, it does keep you sane from a mental standpoint in that you "feel" like you are having sugar, but are not. Hell, I also freeze the crystal light into little "ice cube pops" to have while dieting!

Also, if you are a complete and total health nut, than a hell of alot of what serious bodybuilders do should be eliminated from your list. Hardcore bodybuilding has many health enhancing aspects, but lets face it...much of what we do to reach extreme levels of bodyfat and muscularity is far from healthy. So, if you wish to simply "be fit and healthy" than yes, maybe you don't want aspartame, but you should also consider living in a plastic bubble too...because we have f%cked this planet but good with toxins and poisons that are EVERYWHERE!

And Mudge my good friend...I would not worry about the tiny insulin spike that asprartame can give. Remember that even protein can cause a small spike.

I know, just throwing in my 2 cents. I am drinking Vanilla Coke during lunch, so I'm a sinner and really I'm ok with it I can put up with the same food for long periods of time, but I have my limits. Boards like this are where I get almost all my motivation though, I dont have a training partner and haven't for a long time.

I noticed that new Nectar protein has aspartame on the label. However, it is the next to last ingredient.

Well, it has zero carbs. They need SOMETHING to sweeten it...and the stuff IS sweet!
