The cost of whey protein

A guy I know has been weight training for 10 years and is pretty big, and doesn't believe in using any sort of suppliments. With the price of whey in the Uk at the moment, you can buy masses of tuna, chicken, eggs, and loads of carbs. I am torn about what do to. Whey is convienent but it's getting v expensive.

A friend of mine went to the UK for about 8 months, he said food there was expensive in general. Whey here is abour $4.60 a pound US depending what you buy it may be slightly less or as much as 2x more approximately. I dont know the convesion for that though.

Since whey is not really an all day protein, it doesn't bother me that much, I dont use that much.

Real food is better for you anyway. Nothing to be torn about except that whey is convenient.

Not bad, a shop in the Uk called Argos sells 44 servings of whey (22 days supply) for 19.99GBP, it provides 32 g of protein when mixed with skimmed milk. Not bad really, doesn't say whether it's whey or what it is though. It's just called 'Muscle Power' and it's by York

I'm from england too and i buy reflex instant whey. It is £30 and has 108 servings. I spent months researching cos prolab pure whey was costing me too much, and people on other forums etc...say it's the best thing since sliced bread...and i have to agree, it is amazing stuff.

not true at all. the body can not tell the difference between amino acids derieved from powdered supplements or that from poultry, etc.

NASA has spent ten's of millions doing research on the effects of supplements and the effects on the human body

I've always wondered though, does the protein become denatured when turning it into a powder? It seems LAM your saying flat out its no different though.

Since you dont like milk due to the homoginization/pasteurization, is whey not subject to this?

the processing of milk into the different protein requires various processing methods. whey is processed at low temperatures (in relation to casein) as to not damage the fragile cell structures. that is one of the resons why you can not cook with whey but you can with casein, milk isolates and egg proteins. intense heat damages the cell nucleui making the proteins unusable for muscle building.
